We recently connected with Rob Ferro and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob , thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
It all started with a hobby, or call it a passion for cars, my father was the responsible for the love i have of cars. Around 13 years old i had a thing for all types of cars, specially modified ones, we are talking about the early 90s. This is where this story actually starts.
My dad has always been a car enthusiast with the knowledge of building unique autos. But i had another vision i loved the audio part of it. More into the bass , that thump kicking in your back. And the sensation was incredible. I said to myself i need to learn how to do that.
Not having any experience whats so ever and living in Colombia / South America was a challenge to get the proper equipment to make it happend, but i knew nothing would hold me back on this idea stuck into my head.
As the years past my knowledge grew, the hunger for more bass or audio was becoming addictive and thats when i met a good friend of mine “Alex” he said that what need it to focus on what i really like, he tought me the secrets of building my 1st subwooferenclosure and it worked like he said.
After practicing and using my dads cars as test or demo vehicles i finally got it.
Alex nicked named me ” The Kid ” being the youngest of the crew.
After years of street experience and lets call it watching others do it, i had the crave to become the best at this and have my own gig going on.
You wouldn’t believe me but my ambition took me the max level from being a audio installer or buisness owner to be working for an actual audio company in the US.
Its every audiophile dream.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
It was after several years of hard work, and learing time by time i finally took the challenge of building my own business, sure it wasn’t easy and working for several employers, which i am.always grateful for teaching and allowing the opportunity of using my knowledge in the audio industry. But it was time for me to move on and do it my way, and ” City Car Audio ” was created. From nothing but an idea, suddenly became a dream come true, my own business, my own boss.
I designed my shop like i wanted, the colors, the theme everything was how i always dreamed it.
My ambitious grew for more throughout the days and when I least knew it, i was succeeding in my field.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As much as you want something, always chase it, my father being a car enthusiasts never agreed with me about being involed in the audio portion, but that never kept me from chasing my dream. I worked hard, struggled for years had 3 jobs and saved up every penny made until the right moment arrived and then i took a gigant step in life.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being recognized for your accomplishments, learning from the best and then being part of that society. Before my time was adequate My buisness was very popular and well recognized in the industry.
Nothing was impossible for me.
All my success put me where i am today!
Dreams come true. Never forget that
