We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kenny Koughs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kenny below.
Kenny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I definitely wish I would’ve started sooner. I can proudly say I’m not the same person I was growing up. I understand this because I didn’t believe in myself and I didn’t really try for much of anything because I allowed myself to be around the wrong people. People who I ultimately allowed to keep me from being happy. And to be honest given how my career has gone in such a short time, I wish I’d just gone after what I wanted sooner. I started right before turning 19. I did a song for my coworkers final project at full sail and I posted it for the f*ck of it. And a lot more people f*cked with it than I expected which was nice but didn’t really mean a whole lot. Shortly after this I run into this dude named Jimmy La-Mer, who I’d been running into for a year now, on campus at school. He joins my BSU and we just became friends. One day he heard the song and straight told me If I wanted to do this for real I could, forgetting the past, losing focus on the future for just a moment to reflect. So I forgot and reflected on myself and wants as an individual. He meant what he said and here we are. So ye I wish that I’d started sooner but only thing I’d say time changes is stamina and ability.

Kenny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m primarily a musician, but I also mix, edit, do cinematography, and am currently working on merch production under my production company. All of these will soon be hirable services under the 100BAD Productions website. I think the biggest thing I’d want anyone to take away from my music or any faucet of my creativity is a sense of feeling closer to being whole and an understanding of balance/duality. I think in a world full of desensitization and dopamine deficiencies feeling anything at all is something we all could use a little more of, I believe balance is the most important step to feeling whole. My newest release Dichotomy is my first attempt at expressing my understanding of duality while beginning to find my own as an artist.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Give them an opportunity to be heard. I think a lot of consumer value comes from a surface level image. That being said I know people far more talented than me who don’t get the proper attention over something like image. I think most creatives do a good job of supporting each other but that only goes so far. I truly think if society appreciated being challenged most people who fall into this category would get proper recognition and most consumers would prolly find music that is entirely fulfilling to them or maybe even helps them grow, heal, etc.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The best thing about being an artist for me is knowing that I’ve helped several someones and have the capacity to help more.
