We were lucky to catch up with Sabina Bower recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sabina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Honestly, I love what I do. I get to work with clients in multiple industries, and two projects are never identical. The work always feels exciting – even during long days. When I finish a project and a client comes back and tells me how they’re making more sales or have gotten more partnership opportunities because of our project together, it’s more rewarding than any 9-5.
The only time I feel like having a regular job is in moments of panic: the “what if I never get another client again?” moments. But the opportunities keep coming and the business keeps growing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been designing and creating since 2018, and my journey has been anything but linear. I started by doing a little bit of everything—video editing for YouTube, directing social media campaigns for a sports company, and serving as a marketing manager for a global fashion brand. These experiences gave me hands-on exposure to so many facets of creative work, from content creation and storytelling to strategic brand building. They also allowed me to see the immense impact design and marketing can have on growing a brand.
Now, I own a design studio called Out Brand Them, where we focus on website design and branding, specifically for playful, daring e-commerce brands. What sets us apart is the blend of creativity and data-driven insights we bring to the table. We don’t just build beautiful websites—we craft digital experiences that are designed to convert. Whether it’s increasing sales, driving more sign-ups, or improving customer engagement, our goal is to provide tangible results for our clients.
What I’m most proud of is the long-lasting relationships we’ve built with our clients. We truly become partners in their business growth, helping them shape their brand, tell their story, and connect with their audience in a way that feels authentic and exciting. I believe our clients choose us because we meet them where they’re at and help them grow from there, whether they’re just getting started or looking to scale. For example, we finished a website redesign with The Roster (a fragrance brand based in Nashville – www.therosterfragrances.com). While it started as just a website redesign, we’ve done print design for them, about to start email marketing, and have quarterly meetings to discuss performance. It’s all about growing together.
The main thing I want potential clients to know is that we’re all about making your brand stand out in a crowded marketplace. We focus on making your website not only visually stunning but also optimized for conversions. We understand that your brand is more than just a logo or a color palette—it’s a story, a feeling, and a connection with your customers. We’re here to help you tell that story in a way that drives results.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Honestly, the most effective way I’ve grown my clientele is through referrals, networking, and being on the right platforms—ilovecreatives and breef are my top two. While SEO, social media, and even paid ads are important, most of my clients have come from these three things.
Referrals are huge for me. When you do great work, people talk. There’s nothing more powerful than someone you trust telling you, “You have to work with them.” I’ve found that delivering strong results for one client often leads to more business through word of mouth.
I still keep up with SEO, social media, and lead gen because they’re part of the bigger picture. But at the end of the day, what’s worked best for me is really building strong relationships, showing up where my ideal clients are, and letting referrals do their thing.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Gosh, this is a big one. So many people say, “I want to start a business, but I don’t know what to do or how to do it,” and then five years later, they’re still saying the same thing. I didn’t want to be in that spot, so I just started—scrappy and all. I didn’t have a lot of money to invest, but I invested time instead. After my 9-5 at the sports company, I’d come home and dive into Skillshare tutorials until midnight or work on project briefs.
Weekends? I’d be at Panera Bread for 8 hours straight, working on a new project for my portfolio. I knew I needed to build something before the clients came, so I bought a domain and hosted my portfolio online. In the beginning, the bulk of my portfolio was project briefs I created myself. I wasn’t waiting around for real clients—I wanted to show what I could do.
It wasn’t easy. I’ve got major respect for anyone balancing a full-time job and a side hustle because I know firsthand how exhausting it can be. But looking back, those were the hours that built the foundation for what I have now. Slowly but surely, those project briefs turned into real clients, and now Out Brand Them is my full-time job—and honestly, I’ve never been happier.
The key milestones for me were just staying consistent and showing up, even when I didn’t know where it would lead. I started scrappy, built my portfolio, and now I’m helping e-commerce brands design their websites and branding full-time. It’s been a journey, but one that I’m so proud of.
Now, I’m launching something huge in early 2025. Stay tuned at www.outbrandthem.com.
