We were lucky to catch up with Kaila Dunlap recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kaila, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started KD Notarial services with an idea to bring value to the community. The main steps with following through and launching the business started with research and analyzing services that were in need. I came across a couple different services, and narrowed It down to Notary and loan signings. There are so many documents people need notarized, and not enough physical places offering notary services. Through market research and analysis I learned that convenience for getting documents notarized were in demand. Once I finished my research, I started working on a business plan to execute the ideas I had for a mobile notary business. There was so much to learn about the notary laws that existed in my state, and It took time to figure out a game plan for execution. Through this, I learned there is no overnight success with building a business and It takes time to see growth in your business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kaila Dunlap and I own KD Notarial Services, a mobile notary business based in Houston Texas. Some of the services I offer include notarizing power of attorney documents, loan signings, estate planning documents and more. The core of my business is striving to provide convenient notary services to my clients and providing as much value as I can. I pride myself on staying knowledgeable on notary laws to best serve my clients. If I had to say what I am most proud of, I would say meeting different clients and knowing that I helped them with very important documents. When having a business you never know who you are going to meet and you never know whose day you will make. Building relationships with my clients has become one my favorite things to look forward to in my business.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One of the books that have helped me on my journey is the four agreements. Now, I know this book doesn’t directly speak on the journey of entrepreneurship, but It feeds the mind. The mindset you have when starting your business is extremely important. This book is filled with helpful tools to live a life free of assumptions, doubt, fear and negativity, all which are important when starting a business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn is the way I think and view myself. Growing up I was always shy and was always afraid to put myself out there. I would always be scared someone would judge me and that ultimately hindered me with moving forward in life. Self-confidence is key, especially when starting a business. I had to learn if I do not believe in myself, then I cannot expect others to believe in me.
