We recently connected with Griffen Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Griffen, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would say the project that resonates the most with me , and that I would say I have the most attachment to is my EP kitty city. All of the songs were about actual things, people and experiences. It was probably the most thought out and most technical release I’ve put out yet. The songs had a little bit more going on and were a little bit more poppy. i got a little bit more personal on the songs and they were kinda an output for those feelings and emotions I was feeling at the time.
The song I feel I have the most attachment to and always even now have on repeat is the self titled song Kitty City. That song is just like a combination of a bunch of thoughts and feelings mainly just about college culture, breaking up after a long term relationship and smoking weed (which most of my songs are about in some way it feels like)
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Griffen Jones, the lead vocalist and creative force behind Acid Youth, a Ferndale, Michigan-based shoegaze band. Drawing inspiration from The Garden, TV Girl, and a tiddlywink of Pink Floyd, we’ve performed extensively throughout Michigan and plan to expand our reach with out-of-state shows in 2025. Our music is available on all major streaming platforms.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
for me, it’s just that feeling after you have a show that goes really well and exactly like how it was supposed to but better and just that feeling of relief of like nothing went wrong. You had a good time. The band had a good time. The audience had a good time. It’s always just like yeah this is why I do this.
I would say also that feeling of like the project is finished. It sounds good. It’s like a resonates with me and I feel like it resonated it’s going to resonate with people always is just like I feel so accomplished.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I noticed that over the summer alone I gained a lot of followers just by going to shows and talking to people, as well as just supporting other people who you know are around like around the same level or area as you. I feel like that is always just a really good feeling of like community and love for the scene and music
