Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amore Allen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amore, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
The biggest challenge to profitability in furniture design is the high cost of materials, production, and logistics. People often see a high price tag and assume big profits, but expenses like 3D printing, manufacturing, and shipping quickly reduce margins.
For example, when I introduced my kitchen/bar stool design, production and logistics costs were far higher than expected. Shipping large, heavy furniture can get expensive, and any damage or delays add extra costs. Balancing quality and affordability while keeping profits up is always a challenge.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Amoré Allen, a furniture designer with a background in psychology and industrial design. I’ve always been passionate about how people interact with the world around them, and my journey into furniture design started in grad school when I took a woodshop course. There, I discovered my love for creating functional, beautiful pieces, and it’s been my path ever since.
I specialize in designing and building furniture, with a focus on creating affordable yet aesthetically pleasing pieces. I know how important it is for people to feel comfortable and connected to their spaces—this became even more apparent after COVID, when home environments became crucial to our well-being. I work with clients who want stylish furniture but may not have the budget for high-end designs. My work solves this problem by offering unique, well-crafted furniture that enhances their space without breaking the bank.
My products range from stools and sofas to plant stands and desks. One of my proudest moments was when my stool, *Fioritura*, was accepted into the National Gallery in Prague—proof that my designs resonate on an international level.
What sets me apart is my blend of psychology and design. I focus on the human experience, creating furniture that’s not only functional but also promotes well-being. For example, my modular sofa, *Inizio*, is designed with dopamine-inducing elements to enhance comfort and joy.
Overall, my brand is about thoughtful design that brings beauty, comfort, and functionality to people’s homes at a price they can afford. I want potential clients and followers to know that I care deeply about how my pieces impact their lives, and I’m committed to delivering quality designs that make their homes feel special.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is seeing how my designs impact people’s lives. There’s something deeply fulfilling about knowing that a piece of furniture I’ve created becomes a part of someone’s daily life, contributing to their comfort, joy, and sense of home. It’s not just about aesthetics—it’s about creating functional art that enhances the way people live and feel in their spaces.
Another rewarding element is the creative process itself. I love taking an idea from a sketch, shaping it through design, and then bringing it to life as a tangible object. That journey, from concept to execution, is filled with problem-solving, discovery, and a sense of accomplishment when I see the final product.
Also, connecting with clients and seeing their reaction to a piece—how it solves a problem for them or makes their space feel more like home—gives me a deep sense of purpose. It’s that emotional connection and the positive impact of my work that truly makes this career so rewarding for me.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of social media and my work at Rooms To Go. Social media allows me to showcase my designs to a broader audience, share my creative process, and engage directly with potential clients. It’s been a great platform to build visibility and connect with people who appreciate my work.
Meanwhile, my role at Rooms To Go has helped me build relationships with clients in person. It’s given me valuable insights into what customers are looking for, which I can apply to my own business. Being hands-on with design and sales there has helped expand my network and create opportunities for collaboration.
