Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julian Tillotson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I got my first video camera when I was 13 years old so videos were always a big part of my life. Growing up I was constantly documenting anything and everything. I went to film school but dropped out because I didn’t like school and was more interested in making a living for myself. This led me to a career in sales and finance in the 2000’s in sales and finance so I knew how to speak “corporate” but I was also a creative that had used video to promote myself for many years.
In 2013 I saw an opportunity to grow businesses with video content via YouTube and emerging social media platforms. At the time corporate content was long and boring AF and didn’t appeal to younger audiences. My plan was to help businesses reach new and existing audiences with branded video content. That was how INDIRAP was born.

Julian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
INDIRAP is a video marketing & paid social agency that grows brand’s exponentially with branded video content, organic & paid social strategy and paid advertising. Our growth strategy helps brands drive their sales, marketing, training and recruitment goals & initiatives across the finish line. Developing an entire content ecosystem around a business helps attract new customers, explode brand visibility and position you as an authority in your industry.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Up until 2020 we primarily focused on brand video content – brand overviews, case studies & testimonials, product * service videos, animated explainer videos etc. When the world shutdown for the pandemic, on-site production came to a screeching halt and we needed ton figure something out fast if we were gonna stay in business. This is when we really stepped into social media and paid ad campaigns.
Our clients still needed to market and advertise but getting a ton of people in a room to do interviews and shoot b-roll wasn’t gonna happen. We came up with a new suite of digital services that included all things social, paid advertising and websites. This really added a new layer of value for our clients that helped us skyrocket revenue fairly quickly and sustain through the pandemic. This was probably the best example of a crisis turned into a blessing that we’ve ever experienced as an agency.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I’ve built a team of amazing creative talent with tenure ranging from 6 years up to 10 years. This obviously doesn’t include all of my subcontractor relationships. When I hire new team members, I look more for someone who is a great listener and who ‘s a team player. Their creative talent comes second to that. I find that people with those qualities become great leaders because they know what is expected of them in addition to knowing how it will affect the team and company as a whole. When you carry yourself with that level of awareness and responsibility you are able to think beyond your one specific job and take actions that raise all ships at a company.
