Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Azure Zane. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Azure, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
This past July, I unfortunately lost two classmates to unrelated accidents that claimed their lives. As a 25 year-old, I didn’t think that life could be so fleeting and as a result I knew that I knew I needed to pursue my dream of sharing my music with the world as a singer/songwriter. Since July I have booked 5 shows as an independent act and people have started to take me seriously as an artist. I currently have been trying to take opportunities that will push me to grow.

Azure, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Azure Zane Cayenne, but I go by “Azure Zane” professionally. A lifelong passion for music and performance inspired me to become a singer/songwriter. My musical journey began with piano recitals at the age of three. Influences like Michael Jackson, The Weeknd, and Ne-Yo motivated me to pursue my dream of becoming an entertainer.
I grew up in Staten Island, New York City, often referred to as “The Forgotten Borough.” While Staten Island isn’t known for its music scene, it is home to The Wu-Tang Clan, who came from the same neighborhood as I did. Seeing them achieve such notoriety inspired me to pursue my own musical dreams.
My mother enrolled me in piano classes when I was three and continued until she passed away a month before my twelfth birthday. I remember how proud she was of my progress and my recitals, even though I sometimes resented the daily practice she insisted on. After she was gone, I found myself more determined than ever to express myself through music. Her loss deeply affected me and significantly shaped my art, serving as a major emotional inspiration in my work.
I grew up in the Seventh-Day Adventist church, participating in various choirs and singing groups. This experience taught me how to use my voice as an instrument, serving as the closest thing to formal vocal training I had. I wrote my first song in June 2015 at sixteen. Interestingly, the mature lyrics I wrote as a teen sound more authentic now that I’m an adult. Over time, my music has evolved from simple “boy meets girl” love songs to addressing themes like mental health, financial challenges, and coming of age.
One major accomplishment in my career was that the second song I recorded, “Schroder” by Joseph Idoko, surpassed 1,000,000 streams in 2021. I also appeared in my first music video for the song “Identity” by This Surrender. My debut performance as Azure Zane is scheduled for August 10th at DJ Transaction’s album release party for *Pulse of the Machine*.
My biggest musical influences are industry icons like The Weeknd, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and Ne-Yo. Growing up in the 2000s, I admired their dominance in the pop scene. I love music that brings strong elation and enjoyment, similar to the feeling you get when a classic Michael Jackson track plays. These entertainers are also known for their songwriting prowess, and I prioritize creating impactful lyrics delivered in exciting ways.
I’d describe my music style as overwhelmingly positive and vibrant. Each song creates a distinct vibe tailored to a specific audience. I blend pop, contemporary R&B, and funk, crafting a unique sound that’s often inspired by my own life experiences.
I find inspiration to write music when I experience strong emotions or ideas that are trying to escape me. I let my ideas have free rein, allowing my thoughts to evolve into whatever the song wants to become. I’m motivated by the desire to leave a legacy for future music lovers. Typically, I’ll listen to a beat online and freestyle ideas while recording a voice memo. If I come up with something I really like, I make a note of it and begin crafting the song. I then replay the beat as needed to write the verses, choruses, and bridges. Other times I make aeries of sounds with my voice and that will inspire the beat that Iw
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a singer songwriter for me is the satisfaction of creating a piece of art that is received positively by others as someone that deals with self doubt it is refreshing to be able to be able to share positive messages through my music in the world that needs more positivity.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to be able to share who I am through my art so that it lasts long after I’m gone. I think about my own mortality often because my mother passed away rather young. I constantly feel the need to purge myself of the ideas that I have within me to feel at peace.
