We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lunaa Maria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lunaa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

One thing that is important to me is to treat every project I do as the most meaningful. I am creating mi trajectoria in real life time, I am creating who and what I will be known for. Everything I do is meaningful to me from the smallest aspect as my outfit to the biggest which is what story do I want to put out there.

Lunaa Maria is an electrifying force in the Latin music scene, captivating audiences worldwide with their vibrant blend of rhythms, soulful melodies, and infectious
energy. With a growing Instagram following of 16,000 devoted fans, Lunaa Maria has quickly become a rising star in the industry. Born in the Dominican Republic, Raised in Brooklyn Lunaa Maria discovered their
passion for music at an early age, drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage and diverse musical traditions of their homeland as well as the home she
was raised in. Combining elements of Latin pop, reggaeton, and urban beats, Lunaa Maria has developed a signature sound that is uniquely their own, resonating with audiences of all ages. Moving from the Dominican Republic to Bushwick, Brooklyn was where I first fell in love with the sounds of reggaeton. Bushwick being a prodominately Puerto Rican and African American neighborhood influenced my music taste and my perspective of culture and art. My mother was always a community advocate who pushed me to pursue my dreams, because of her hard work and dedication I was able to sing at community events, health fairs, events alongside the 83rd precinct as well as Assembly Members in my district. I graduated with a B.A in psychology and passed my course in NYU for music business and songwriting. I make music for the indepenent women growing up in NYC who have big dreams and aspirations. I want to show women that we are capable, that we can be strong and soft. I want to show everyone that with commitment dedication and disciple anything in the world is possible. I want to heal people with my music and create a safe space to radiate love. My biggest accomplishments are being a five time award winner, winning in categories like
-Best New Artist of the year
-Feminine Artist Revelation
-Best Urban Video of the year
-New Artist of the year
-Featured Pop Artist
and becoming an international artist Performing in Places like the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Florida and Colombia.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

My influences come from many different places and aesthetics. I am Dominican but was raised in a Puerto Rican neighborhood singing both in Spanish and in English. Majority of the time I’m being asked to pick a side. As a woman I take pride in my versatility and I refuse to be placed in one box and I believe the diversity in me is my sauce for authenticity.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?

Yes! everything! I think being a creative and choosing to be creative in a society with so much structure is difficult. Non- creatives will never understand the deep passion that comes with creating. It’s almost like believing in God, you can’t physically see him but we choose to believe in him everyday, creatives- we feel deeply, we’re passionate, we take up space. In a society that wants us to stay in line. It’s difficult getting the people to believe in a vision that they have no sight to see
