We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaylen ‘JaeVii’ Higgins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaylen ‘JaeVii’ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
By far the best investment that I’ve made was into myself. Finding who I am as a person and putting aside time to evolve my craft was a priority for me. No one knows you better than you. It takes time and a lot of venturing outside your comfort zone to truly discover yourself. That is simply how you grow as a individual.
Jaylen ‘JaeVii’, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been immersed in the world of music. My mom and dads love for music rubbed off on me in a profound way. Starting off playing the drums in the church really sets the foundation for me musically. For the last 10+ years I’ve been focused on translating emotion and feeling through the art of creating music. It is how I talk without speaking. Growing up in both Michigan and Arizona really gave me the sense of texture to incorporate in my music.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Falling in love with the process of creation itself and actually putting the art out for the world to interpret and internalize for themselves. It’s the sense of accomplishment and completion really, It sparks a drive to create more to improve from your last piece of art. I get addicted to achieving goals, that’s exactly what it boils down to. So quite naturally I’m eager to move on to the next art form so I repeat the process.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
We’re normal human beings, we just translate emotions and inspiration we receive into art forms. Our art is a extension of our inner selves. We as artists, creatives, innovators craft worlds for ourselves and explore and push the boundaries within it. This is how we evolve. We constantly do what we do to keep sane, it’s truly our form of therapy.
