Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacy Dawn Valeras. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacy Dawn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have had a career full of meaningful and special moments but one of the most meaningful projects that I am so proud to be a part of is working with the award-winning, platinum selling children’s trio, Sharon, Lois & Bram. I grew up watching their television series, The Elephant Show and from the time I was very little, they inspired me to want to pursue a career in music.
In 2015, while going through a bit of a difficult time in my career, I wrote a letter to Lois Lilienstein, one of the trio’s members, to thank for for inspiring me and to let her know just how much their music had influenced my life. Lois died a couple weeks after receiving my letter and that exchange between us, led the way to me getting to meet & eventually work with Sharon & Bram. In 2019, I was hired to be the social media manager for Sharon, Lois & Bram and have since gone on to produce two of their records. Now, as their creative director, having the chance to be a part of their incredible team, bringing their music to new generations of fans, it is the most rewarding and unexpected gifts of my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Having a background in music, starting out as an artist and writer myself has been incredibly helpful when working with other artists. I am self taught in so many ways and a lot of the skills that I apply to the other artists I work with are things I learned first hand while marketing and promoting my own events. My focus has always been to bring the highest quality content to fans and potential fans though digital marketing and seeing the results of a social media account growing or being able to monetize creativity is something I am always proud of. It’s most exciting when you get to celebrate those moments with your team.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of getting to work in a creative space is seeing how others can become inspired by content you create – with Sharon, Lois & Bram, we are working as a team to constantly find new ways to continue their legacy through content that brings up the feeling of happy childhoods, nostalgia and memories from a simpler time. Working alongside Sharon’s daughter Randi, who oversees all aspects of the Sharon, Lois & Bram brand and Kris Stengele who is the director of projects & their archivist, and Jennifer Mitchell, who is the head of their record label, is always fun. We problem solve, create, dream and manifest opportunities together and that is such a joy.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Using Sharon, Lois & Bram as an example, building their social media has been a true labor or love. When I first started working with them, it was very clear from the beginning that fans were always going to be excited to see photo and video content that reminded them of their childhood. Luckily, we have loads of that going way back to the late 70’s and going all the way to present day. Finding ways to share that content creatively is the key! We always try to find the best ways to share that stuff with fans and we have seen their accounts grow from zero to multi-millions over the last several years. It takes time, dedication and most importantly wonderful people to work with like Sharon (Lois) & Bram have been!
