We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Biani Xavier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Biani, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking risks is a huge part of my life story. I took my first big risk when I moved from Brazil to the USA when I was only 19 year old and very alone. I didn’t speak english and I didn’t know anyone. I had very little money in my pocked and a mind full of hopes and dreams. Honestly, thats all I really needed it to succeed. I learned english and put myself through school/college. I graduated with honors and was able to create a wonderful life for me and the family I then created. Fast forward, I now live in a beautiful town, have countless friends, and love what I do. Life is all about taking risks. If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t help you grow. Confront your fears. Take the chance. Life is full of uncertainties and while it can be tempting to play it safe, some of the most rewarding experiences in life come from stepping outside our comfort zones. Taking risks can lead to growth, innovation, and opportunities we might never have imagined. It challenges us to push our boundaries, learn from our experiences and ultimately discover our true potential. While I understand that some risks come with the possibility of failure, they can also open the door to new possibilities. Embracing this mindset can transform our approach to challenges and inspire us to pursue our dreams with courage and potential.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like most business journeys, mine hasn’t been a smooth road. The challenges I faced this past year could have negatively affected my career, but I try to use every circumstance to my advantage. For example, during covid a lot of us were sitting home wondering how we were going to keep our businesses. I reached out to friends who live out of state to check on them and see how covid was affecting their lives differently than mine here in FL. I found that a lot of them weren’t happy with their state regulations and were looking forward to a change. I was able to find homes to a few families who are now happily living the Florida life.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I work with a small firm called The Palm Group Realty. We are a boutique, realty firm and we take pride in the work we provide to our clients. I am rarely sitting in the office as my work requires me to be out on the field showing homes, hosting open houses and constantly talking to people. I love interior design and because of that, I get to help my clients see visions sometimes they don’t see when looking at a house. That helps them make a more educated decision while providing them with tools they didn’t know were available to them. When clients feel confident, they also feel comfortable and that creates a wonderful partnership between me and my clients.
