We were lucky to catch up with Maya Deanne recently and have shared our conversation below.
Maya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If I can go back in time, I most definitely would have started content creating sooner! I started to seriously think about content creation at the beginning of January 2024 because I just was not fulfilled at the job/role I was at. I always found so much joy looking at other creatives living out their dreams in the spaces that I aspire to be. I thought to myself, “ You don’t want another year to go by without at least trying, you know”. If I had started sooner, I definitely would have like to hope my efforts weren’t in vain and I see some sort of success lol. I would have gotten rid of that imposter syndrome out of my mind and straight to the trash for sure ,but hey ! better late than never!

Maya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So basically, I’m just a girl in her 20s trying to figure out life as it goes! I just got really motivated one day, turn on my phone camera and started filming content around the beauty•fashion & lifestyle niche and never stop! I want my pages to reflect a safe space to where all my beauty/fashion lovers feel relax to unwind after a long day of work. Hopefully, they will see a little bit of themselves, especially my black & brown women, as we often lack the representation in spaces like this. I feel like my content is relatable & authentic because it’s not all about the aesthetics look that I see constantly all the time. There is nothing wrong with that, but I want to normalize being real again. I believe we can all be seen/heard no matter if the items we have is affordable or high-end. I am very proud of the community of support that I have gotten once I started this new journey. You really don’t know how much that means!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Lol! I’m kind of in the same boat of starting to build a social media presence, but I will say audiences love CONSISTENCY! I have seen so many increases on my page. Once your viewers know that you show up with good, quality content that you’re passionate about, they will be able to see it in your work and you will get rewarded for that!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that having a small following count does not really matter in all cases. Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you want to be a content creator, you should not let that get in the way! I remember when contemplating if I should go into Content creation, I didn’t really think anyone would pay attention to my fashion, beauty advice because of my small following. Now I know, someone out there is gonna click with the material you put out!
