We were lucky to catch up with Shannon & Meredith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shannon & Meredith, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Hi there! We (Shannon and Meredith) grew up together and learned how to golf at a young age. As our lives and careers evolved into different industries and geographies, the one constant that remained was our dialogue about what to wear to golf. The options seemed limited and there were few brands that were intentionally designed by women, for women.
There are more women than ever playing golf and we have heard countless times – from friends, family, coworkers – that they would try golfing, but they just don’t care for or feel confident in the clothes required to play. We always felt that to be in an elevated setting such as a golf or country club, we should feel elevated and empowered through our wardrobe. To add another hurdle to the gateway for leisure sports, you need clothes that not only make you feel good, but give you the versatility to wear before, during and after recreation. We know that women are multitasking each hour slot in their calendar, so fitting in 9 holes or a round of tennis in the middle of a busy schedule is a win! Women should feel a badge of honor when wearing their sport attire through the rest of their day instead of feeling the need to change immediately after a round or match.
Midspring exists to inspire confidence and style from the course to everyday life. We believe that high performance can also mean high-style, and we have set out to elevate the dress code for women on and off the course and courts. We are passionate about thoughtfully designed feminine sport attire that focuses equally on fashion, function, and flattering fit.
Midspring isn’t just about golf attire; it’s about redefining the way women dress for an active lifestyle. Midspring invites women of all ages to be part of our community.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Shannon spent a decade in fashion working for notable brands including Barneys, Kate Spade, Brandon Maxwell and Evereve. During her time at these brands, she has held positions within Buying and Merchandising where she contributed to the design and product development of collections, in addition to consulting new brands.
While Meredith’s first job was in a clothing boutique in high school, her post-graduate career brought her into corporate America where she’s held positions within leading sales teams cultivating creative solutions to better her clients’ real estate portfolios and strategies.
We put our brains together to develop the best product that solved a void for women: a golf + sport wardrobe that marries both fashion and function to take our multitasking gals through their days. We chose fabrics that would ensure essential competitive qualities for the course and courts, including (but not limited to) moisture wicking, four-way stretch, UPF 50, lock down zipper pulls and compression waist bands. We designed undershorts for skirts and dresses with bespoke tee holders and built-in pockets to hold golf balls, tennis balls, an iPhone or whatever you might be juggling that day. We then designed into new innovative silhouettes as well as updates to the club wear classics. Lastly, we incorporated flattering feminine prints and traditional colors to complement one’s personal sense of style.
And on a personal note, in our experience, there is no better partner than working with your best friend. Our mutual respect and friendship gets us through the rollercoaster of a startup and our shared vision for the future is what wakes us up in the morning. Midspring has only just begun, and we are so grateful to be on this journey together, and with you!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It is imperative to us that our customers receive the best possible product from Midspring and we do not compromise quality over anything. We have spent endless hours debating seemingly-minute details that we feel will have any type of impact, large or small, on our customer wearing our line.
With that, we have had pieces or entire collections that we have paused, delayed or canceled if we felt that they weren’t being executed perfectly. This has not been without disappointment and affect to financial models, but it is more important to us to have exceptional product than to rush something to production for a release deadline. We have done this, in different capacities, twice now and it has proven that with additional work and thought, having the best possible product is worth whatever sacrifices it took to get there.
We know that with a young brand, and in life, you only have one chance to make a great first impression. And that is what we strive for every day at Midspring.

How’d you meet your business partner?
We are best friends since childhood! From a young age we knew our dynamic was big, honest, supportive, motivated and rooted in intense loyalty. We are from the same town, Ridgefield, Connecticut where our families belonged to the same club where we grew up playing junior golf together. After college, University of Michigan for Shannon and Providence College for Meredith, we moved to New York City and were roommates, cheering each other on as we pursued our separate careers. Life evolved and we supported one another as bridesmaids in each other’s weddings and later as cheerleaders as we both become mothers exactly one year apart to the day – in mid Spring!
The journey from best friends, to roommates, to mothers, to cofounders and business partners has been an incredible ride and we welcome you to join this next chapter of our lives.
