Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Meade. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashley , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I feel you shouldn’t need to ask friends and family to support your business. If they truly want to see you success and support your business they should want to purchase and or help promote your business! I don’t think they have to purchase necessary, even a social media post now of days helps tremendously!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my in home bakery after Covid. I self taught myself how to bake after having quit the salon when I was pregnant with my second son to keep myself busy while being a stay at home mom.
I focus on custom cookies, cakes and cupcakes. I love also doing weddings and the creativeness that comes with decor and set ups!
It’s 100% me when doing an order, no team and no production line so everything is made with love and passion!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I remember making cakes for a few friends for birthdays and Mother’s Day. My birthday is 2nd week in May right around Mother’s Day so after doing about 10 cakes I told my husband I wanted a kitchen aid mixer for my birthday and started my business. A couple years later I came across an auction for an industrial mixer so again I said I know what I want for my birthday and was able to purchase it for an amazing price; her name is Big Bertha!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I really think my local community and friends helped me get to where I am at today. A lot of word of mouth, my community were all so supportive and I’m now known around town by many names; cake lady, cookie lady, cupcake girl, I’m sure there are others. I was once told I will be the reason New Franklin has diabetes. I take it as a good thing and people love my sweet treats!
