We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cameron Blair. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cameron below.
Alright, Cameron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
So the most meaningful project I’ve gotten to work on for the band is organizing Cures for Love Fest, a music festival we have put on for the past two years. One day back in 2022 I thought to myself, and then made a joke tweet, “What if we threw a small music festival that the main goal was showcasing Columbus and by extension, Ohio bands?” Which ultimately led to what was the first year which we held at Big Room Bar (rip) with a bunch of our favorites/friends we’ve made on the journey through being a band. There were eight other bands that played that day and we had some food trucks and honestly it was pretty stressful but by the end of it I was really glad we did it. Plus, it really just was a one off idea, like “Why not? There are other bands who are doing this.” Ultimately us being smaller isn’t a hinderance, we don’t have anyone telling us what to do, we just get to look at bands in Columbus and do our best to make sure we get them some recognition.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started playing guitar around 11 years old but didn’t do much more than play for fun, learning songs and playing with family or friends. Around 2016 we decided to start a band and from that Kristian and I have stayed with the project. We have released two full length albums and just released a split EP with our friends in Dick Nixon called “Couldn’t Be Bothered” and we’re very proud of how that came out and has been received. We also shot a music video for one of the songs, “Sunbleached”, which people are really liking.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Honestly, the biggest thing anyone can do is be present. Going to shows/concerts, museums, art galleries, or anywhere else that art is showcased is the best thing you can do. It tells the world that these things, the things people create, are valued in some way, not just intrinsically tied to money or profit. Sure, some things cost money to attend but there are plenty of free galleries where you can just observe or look at art. Most people have some kind of streaming service they pay for to watch tv shows or movies or to listen to music but much of that can be done for free as well on other sites. But we are consuming art all the time and being consciously aware of that is way more important. Artists create for themselves, generally, and I think more people should do that as well. Write poetry or songs, draw, paint, sketch, use crayons, or go buy the really expensive brushes from an art store if you want to, but make something and be proud of it. Don’t be prohibitive of yourself, it’s okay to not be able to or want to spend money on something, that doesn’t mean its existence is worthless.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would say that, speaking for the entire band, our main goal is to explore who we are without worry. Then the hard part; we have to try and translate that into something audible. Everything else is just part of the journey. We have already met so many great people, we’re sure to continue that trend and the best we can do is be supportive of each other and all the other bands and artists we meet.
