We recently connected with Jassy Yuan and have shared our conversation below.
Jassy, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I still remember the day it all began. It wasn’t planned, and that’s what made it so special. I was in college, completely focused on my studies, thinking I had my future mapped out like everyone else around me. But then, a classmate of mine was working on a student short film and desperately needed an extra hand on set. I knew nothing about filmmaking at the time, but I agreed to help—more out of curiosity than anything else.
The moment I stepped onto that set, something clicked. It was as if I had wandered into another world, one where creativity and collaboration danced together in perfect harmony. The energy was infectious. People were moving around, setting up lights, adjusting cameras, actors rehearsing their lines—there was a buzz, an electric charge in the air that I couldn’t quite describe. And amidst all the chaos, I felt this incredible sense of purpose, like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
I started doing small tasks, helping here and there, but with each moment, I found myself more drawn in. When I saw the director guiding the scene, capturing moments, and shaping stories, it was like watching magic unfold in front of my eyes. The whole process—from the technical details to the emotional connections between the crew and cast—was thrilling.
That night, I stayed late, watching the final shots being filmed. When the camera rolled for the last time, I realized I didn’t want to leave. I didn’t just find the experience fun—it made me feel alive. More alive than I had felt in years, like I had stumbled upon a secret part of myself that had always been waiting to be discovered.
From that day on, I knew. Filmmaking wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was a path I had to follow. It was the first time I felt the full power of storytelling, and I realized I wanted to be the one behind the camera, bringing stories to life. That random day on set changed the course of my life, opening up a world of endless creative possibilities. It was the beginning of my journey, one that I continue to pursue every day with the same excitement and passion that first sparked inside me.

Jassy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a filmmaker driven by a passion for telling emotionally nuanced and intuitive stories. From the moment I stepped onto my first film set during college, I knew I had found my true calling. That initial experience of collaborating with a creative team and bringing a story to life through the lens of a camera sparked something in me. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to mastering the craft of storytelling, focusing on creating films that connect with people on a deep, emotional level.
As a female director, I believe what sets me apart is my ability to tap into the subtle emotions and human experiences that many overlook. My work often centers around personal growth, self-discovery, and the complexity of relationships. I aim to tell stories that feel both universal and intimate, using visuals, music, and performance to evoke genuine emotion and make the audience reflect on their own lives.
My main focus is film production, where I take on the roles of writer, director, and sometimes producer. I’ve been fortunate to work on a variety of projects, from short films to more personal, long-form narratives. My goal is to bring stories that inspire, challenge, and resonate with audiences long after they’ve left the theater or turned off their screens.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to create an environment where actors and crew can feel free to express themselves authentically. Collaboration is at the heart of my work, and I strive to ensure every project is infused with the creative energy of every person involved. It’s this collective spirit, coupled with my instinctive approach to storytelling, that allows me to deliver emotionally compelling and visually striking films.
If there’s one thing I’d like potential clients and fans to know about my work, it’s that I’m committed to stories that matter. Whether it’s capturing the quiet moments of internal conflict or showcasing bold, transformative journeys, I’m always searching for the emotional truth within each story. Every project is an opportunity to explore the human experience and leave a lasting impact through the power of film.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One resource that has significantly shaped my thinking, both in management and in my entrepreneurial journey, is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. This book completely shifted the way I approach not only my work but also my personal growth. Covey’s emphasis on principles such as being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, and prioritizing what truly matters has been instrumental in how I structure my projects and lead teams.
The book’s focus on self-awareness and the idea that we are in control of how we respond to situations really resonated with me. It helped me realize the importance of staying true to my vision while adapting to the inevitable challenges that arise during filmmaking. Additionally, Covey’s framework for thinking long-term has made a lasting impact on how I set goals for my career and the stories I choose to tell through film.
This philosophy encourages me to cultivate meaningful relationships with my collaborators and maintain a sense of balance between creative passion and practical execution. It’s a mindset that constantly pushes me to find clarity and purpose in both my creative and professional endeavors.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I hold a positive and optimistic view on NFTs. As someone who thrives in the creative space, I see NFTs as a revolutionary development that opens up exciting new opportunities for artists and filmmakers alike. They provide a way to create digital ownership and scarcity for works of art, which is incredibly powerful in a world where digital content can be easily copied and shared.
For filmmakers, NFTs could offer a new model for distributing and monetizing films, allowing creators to directly connect with their audience and retain more control over their work. They can also create new revenue streams through collectibles, behind-the-scenes content, or even unique ownership experiences tied to the films themselves. The decentralization aspect of NFTs is something that excites me because it empowers creators to break away from traditional gatekeepers and have a more direct relationship with their supporters.
While the NFT space is still evolving and there are challenges to address, I believe its potential to reshape the creative industries is immense. It’s a field I’m keeping a close eye on, with the hope of exploring how it can intersect with my work in film.
