We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Freeman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Freeman below.
Freeman, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
A huge portion of my happiness stems from creating and being an artist. The unfortunate reality is I currently also have 2 jobs. For the time being, I work my two jobs, but also make time to exercise almost daily, and still work on my music or miscellaneous things involving my music. To answer the question asked in short, I’m more focused on becoming an artist full time and being able to do that freely, being able to pay my bills and live my life, and not work for a regular job anymore.

Freeman, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the music industry through a very good friend of mine, Britten Wrong. I make rap music, but I consider it to be on the emotion/lyrical side of Hip Hop. Something that sets me apart from others in the industry would be my work ethic. I genuinely live, and breath music. It is very tough for me to be able to let loose and watch TV, go on vacation, out for drinks, etc. because all I think about the whole time I’m doing so is the work I could get done instead. I end up only sleeping roughly 5-6 hours a night in order to complete the daily goals I set for myself as a result. I am definitely most proud of the progress I’ve made in the past year and a half I’ve been working daily on music. I have done shows in other cities, gained roughly 700 followers on Instagram, and reached close to 60 monthly listeners at one point.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Most rewarding? That’s very hard to answer because there are so many things involving my passion that is rewarding. If I HAD to choose just one, I would say, when other people know the lyrics to my songs. When I’m performing and people are rapping the lyrics with me, there is truly no greater feeling in this world. I made a lyric talking about moments like this in a recent song I dropped titled “Hold Your Breath.”

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I’m so glad this question was asked because it is a very simple answer, yet I’m very passionate about the answer. Post them! Share with your friends! Go to their shows! Buy their merch! As an artist who is still up and coming, it means so much to me when people repost my song, make a video using it, comment under my posts, and share it with friends. Starting out in this game can be very discouraging, and even the slightest amount of support can go a very long way. So if you’re reading this and you have a friend, colleague, loved one, whatever the case, support them!
