We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katie Hoffpauir. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katie below.
Katie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I’ve always had the desire to blaze my own path and find what really fuels my soul creatively. I knew college had nothing to offer me and courageously dropped out after one semester. Sticking to my interests, talents, and guts, I became certified in esthetics. I jumped in head first into cosmetic tattooing and took three eyebrow courses. I offered free and highly discounted services for my first year. I had invested almost all of my savings at this point into this career and was trying to get anyone I could in the door. At this point I was waiting tables and tattooing faces for basically nothing! I would talk to any table or anyone who would listen, about the life changing power of permanent makeup. I totally acted the part for a while because I really was not sure where this was going. But, the few clients I had were super satisfied with the attention to detail I provided and the undeniable, long lasting results. I started to realize the affect I and my craft had, and this lit a huge fire under me! I mean people were (somehow) trusting me at 19 years old to completely change their face. I reinvested time and time again into my craft (and still do) and it only pays off more and more. This job has taught me some of the most valuable lessons and has shaped me into who I am today! I am still currently in awe at the power of permanent makeup and am so passionate to provide quality results. I am 2.5 years into my career and am constantly hungry for more. More knowledge, more art, and more creating!!!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Makeup was always a huge part of my life. I have been hired for event makeup since junior high! I appreciate natural beauty and I love to embrace what makes someone uniquely attractive. Makeup was totally the segway into cosmetic tattooing. It was helpful to have knowledge of facial balancing and flattering. Permanent makeup intrigued me from the start because it can enhance, add and change the face entirely.
I am 8x certified in naturally tattooing eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner. Eyebrows are the framework of the face. They affect every single expression and majorly affect how your face is perceived. Brows create balance and harmony of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Lip blushing gives life to the overall complexion. Pale lips make us appear tired and lifeless. A natural flushed color evenly distributed makes you appear awake and youthful. It’s facts! Tattooed eyeliner is great for someone that wants to look awake all of the time. It adds fullness to the lashes and can be done in a range of styles. This is great for someone with shaky hands or someone who is smudging off half way through the day. Each one of my services provide real answers to my client’s problems and struggles with the daily application of makeup.
Through technology and the advancements of permanent makeup, all of these procedures are so easy to get done. No downtime, no scary unpredictable results, and hardly any pain. Permanent makeup lasts multiple years with little to no maintenance and is quickly becoming the new normal for great reasons. It’s waterproof enhancements that provide years of confidence. I am most proud of the natural results I am able to achieve and my conservative approach. I am overjoyed with the impact I am able to have in my community and I thank all of my gorgeous clients for their trust in my vision.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is being able to form real client relationships. I do what I love artistically, while also satisfies my client’s needs. I respect the trust that people put in me and I deliver high quality results. It’s always the best experience for both of us!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support local! Look around in your town at local artists before branching out. I often make this mistake too of overlooking my community when this is how we thrive!
