We recently connected with DatBoyKcold aka DBK and have shared our conversation below.
DatBoyKcold aka DBK, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Am I’m happy ? . Yes indeed I am . To look back at where I came to actually living the life I want and will get is my first thought on my head everyday when I wake up . Ever since I started working on music I have always seen myself doing it for a long time . Even when I’m working a regular job , I’m at work coming up with hooks and choruses, I’m never not working on music . I always had this dream of 1000 plus people calling my name out to the stage . It has always been a thought in my head that always reminds me of what I’m working for and that’s to save for a music video , studio time or even a show . I’m always thinking of what’s nexts.

DatBoyKcold aka DBK, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my music journey in 2013 , I was young , a teenager but still young . Coming up in the world we are in now and it was difficult starting out because there wasn’t many other people doing rap when i started, it was a good 4-5 local artist that were actually doing they thing around the city . So it was hard trying to find a sound or what not but long story short , I was a music producer before anything, before any music getting drop , before me even buying music equipment. I had to learn the beginning of music and to me that’s learning how to make a beat . Me starting out , I could not make a hook to a song for nothing so I started searching youtube for beats like “instrumental with hooks ” and use them type of beats to make my songs but i never liked any of them . I would get mad at YouTube because certain songs without the verse wouldn’t be on YouTube so I started creating instrumental with hooks and uploading them to YouTube . And that’s were my music journey started because I kept that going for almost 2 years and eventually started making money from it at like 14/15 years old . I eventually saved money up to buy music equipment like a laptop , mic and headphones to get me started with actually recording music. From year 2013 to 2016 , I would get one thing every Christmas that alot me closer to recording . One year I got a laptop and one year I got some speakers. By 2017 I was ready to start putting music out but I was leaning more towards the producer side of music, I went to a Recoding arts program in Ohio for 2 months were I got a certificate for being a music producer. When I came back to my home town I start working on nothing but music because that school just reminded me how good I was and how perfect my voice sounds on the mic . In 2018 I opened up for my very first industry Artist “Key Glock” and man after that show I just knew rapping was my calling . I grew my name in the city by networking with different venues in the city and signing up to any showcase I could perform at . Now I host my own showcase and still of course promote my music as well , I feel like this a good opportunity for me and any local artists that joins my show . I’m always here to help who helps me .

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Not gone lie , I started rapping at a young age when it was mostly old heads rapping around the city . It’s hard to even maintain a fan base , let alone to even get one fan . You have to just be you throughout the whole process, be consistent and confident with your work , people like to see honestly but listen to fictions . The best advice I can tell you is follow the trends and stay updated with your life only because fans wants to stay on track with your lifestyle.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As I’m still learning and growing with my music, I still enjoy meeting new fans , especially when I get done with a show and I’m getting off the stage to random people waiting for me to shake their hands , that’s the most rewarding thing that happens all the time and I love it .
