We were lucky to catch up with Xiomara Serrano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Xiomara , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Growing up, one of my favorite things that we did was getting together and looking through photo albums. I loved the genuine smiles, captured moments and stories that were part of each photo. As I was growing up, I always had an affinity for wanting to capture memories with pictures. I loved being able to look back and smile, laugh, or cry at the different moments.
So, when I decided to begin doing photography professionally, it became important to me to create a business that mirrors my love for the profession and the authenticity of the moments that are being captured. That is why our mission is deliver photos that capture authentic, candid moments with each client. I hope to give my clients galleries that they love and tell the story that they wanted captured in this art form.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Xiomara and I am a photographer. My company is Xiomara Andrea Photography and I primarily capture candid portraiture using digital and film photography. I have been doing photography since I was in high school, but began professionally while I was in college. However, my story really started when I was a kid. I remember as I growing up in New Jersey and my family was always carrying around a camera to document everything we did. I always wanted to play with the cameras and I was always so excited when the film got developed and I could finally see the moments that were captured; This is how my interest truly began. My journey is a core part of my work and is the thing I am most proud of sharing with my clients. It is why I do what I do and why I love it so much. It is also why I chose the style that I use in my work and why one of the main things I ask my clients before/during their session is to tell me their story.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Personally, the thing that is the most rewarding is being able to capture memories and/or create art. I absolutely adore the surface level part of capturing portraiture (the smiles, the posing, etc.). However, being able to connect with people and help highlight genuine emotion and moments during a portrait session is what makes me love what I do. Having my clients genuinely love their photos and be able to see themselves in a different way warms my heart every single time. Of course, as much as I love my portraits, I also find it extremely rewarding to capture and create art with more posed session or by doing cityscape/landscape photography. I love the creativity and awe that is invoked by those kinds of sessions.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I believe that my family and friends have been the best source of new clients. Many clients tell me that they were recommended by my family members or by my friends or that they found me through the photos that my friends and family post or reshare on their social media. I am very fortunate to have such a big network of support and people who truly root for me and my success.
