Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beth Mcgill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I was taught early on that you had to work hard for everything. I went to school, received good grades, and got a job. I was a third-grade teacher for over 20 years. I worked hard for my money. As a teacher and single mom of two boys, I wanted to learn about saving, investing and retirement planning. I asked lots of questions, yet what I discovered was a total lack of financial education especially for women. Then, my teacher friend, Gail, suggested I read David Bach’s book, Start Late, Finish Rich – A No-Fail Plan for Achieving Financial Freedom at Any Age. I was completely hooked. I wanted to save and plan for my future. I loved learning about financial education. Then, I said yes to a wonderful opportunity to become fully licensed as a financial advisor. I wanted to learn as much as possible so that I could teach and help others.
Over time, I built a thriving financial services business. Eventually, I was able to transition from teaching in the public school system to working full-time as a financial advisor. After commuting for years and being away from home a lot, I decided to work from home. It was a perfect fit. I hired a business coach to help me with the transition to becoming an entrepreneur. I wrote a business plan, set goals, and developed a schedule. Through this process, I put an intense amount of pressure on myself.
I kept asking my friend and colleague, ‘Are we having fun yet?’. After a few months of asking Apryl that question a million times, I realized that something was wrong. My business was successful, I cared about my clients and providing financial education, and everything was going great. So, what was going on with me? Honestly, I didn’t know. I couldn’t explain it. I wanted more – more joy in my life. I wanted to experience complete joy and bliss. So, why was I being so hard on myself? I set my expectations and goals. I was taking my newfound freedom and squelching it. No one was pressuring me except me. Can you relate?
It took me a while, but I finally realized that I needed to get out of my own way. I knew that there was something deeper I needed to focus on. I needed to look inward to the real me whoever that was.
I listened and followed my intuition. Even though I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, in October 2018 I started doing something brand new. I found a quiet spot in my home, and I set my phone timer for five minutes. Then, I asked this question, “Who Am I?”. I sat there quietly and listened.
I kept doing it day after day. I was determined to find out who I really was. I called this time my silent practice. My mind raced so much that I had to practice being silent. This wasn’t hard work, but it took me a while to get used to it. Even though I didn’t know it at the time, this ‘silent practice’ was the beginning of my spiritual journey. A journey that led me to understand who I really am and realize my soul’s calling – my destiny!
For the first 90 days or so when I asked the question, “Who Am I?” I received a word or a phrase. I heard it internally. It wasn’t weird or anything. It felt natural and normal. Within five minutes I would hear a soft voice. It’s like the word(s) dropped down into my consciousness. At first, I thought it was fun. Then, I got so excited that I couldn’t wait for the next morning. Some of the words that I heard were teacher, strong, driven, at peace, thankful, creative, generous, a servant, and sincere. After a few days, I sensed how important these words were, and I decided to write them in my journal. There were 68 altogether. I started to look up their definitions and I began to write down their synonyms too. My silent practice was exhilarating. This was something that I didn’t have to work at. It was as natural as breathing.
One day, I heard the word expanding. Yes, my mind, my wisdom, and my life were all expanding. I was experiencing a spiritual, emotional, and intellectual expansion. I felt it at my core. Months later when I started my business and was looking for a name, I was drawn to my journal. I looked back at what I had written during this time, and I was drawn to the word expanding. I had written down the synonyms for expanding and the words thrive, flourish, and grow popped off the page at me. It was that easy. My business name, Thrive Flourish & Grow, represents my journey now and forever.

Beth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was a financial advisor with a successful business when I was introduced to the Law of Attraction and mentors such as Bob Proctor and Mary Morrissey. As I learned more about Law of Attraction and manifesting, I wanted to share it with others. As a former teacher, I knew that I could create workshops around the topic, so I did. I started my business Thrive Flourish & Grow in 2019 and I began to invite my friends to these workshops which they enjoyed tremendously. In 2020 when the world shut down, I learned how to make videos and create courses. I published my self-directed online course, Live a Life You Love Now! in 2021. Soon after, I met a woman through networking. She was a business coach, but I knew right away that there was something different about her. She was an energy worker. At the time I didn’t even know what that meant, but I was attracted to it and I knew that I had manifested her in my life. I asked her to teach me and she did. I trained with her in 2021 to become an energy healer practitioner. In 2022 I manifested becoming a certified hypnotherapist. I use the word manifested because I was a full-time financial advisor and I never intended to become anything else. But the calling of my soul was intensely calling me to leave the financial world and to embrace becoming a spiritual teacher and practitioner. It was a 2 year process, but in 2022 and 2023 I sold my financial services business. Now I was free to listen to the calling of my soul. I continue to teach the Law of Attraction and manifesting through my YouTube Channel and workshops. I provide individual sessions for anyone that is having an issue. It could be emotional, spiritual or physical. As a practitioner I guide people to achieve self-healing. I am able to locate where the initial cause of the problem is and release the negative emotions attached to it. I clear energy around relationships and activate positive attributes for what the person needs. I also find soul programs and contracts that can be released. How do I do this? I tune into my higher self (soul) and into the higher self of the person that I am working with. I am the guide that finds the information and receives the messages that individuals need to hear. The hypnotherapy comes in when someone needs to receive the messages from their subconscious. I believe that we can all tune into our higher selves but we are not taught this. I’m grateful to be doing this work and helping people get through blocks that they thought that they were stuck with. Last week I worked with a man who had been experiencing depression for his whole life – over 50+ years. I found the cause which was something that had occurred in his childhood but had repressed. Once it was brought to light, we released the energy, he forgave, then he felt much lighter and freer. There is nothing that you can’t get through. Anything is possible when we tap into the consciousness that creates worlds.

Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
When I decided to sell my financial services business, the decision did not come lightly. I had hundreds of clients that I cared about deeply. However, I knew that I was being called by my soul to step into energy healing full time.⚡
The first step was to get a full business evaluation completed. It took 6 months.
As the universe would have it, I manifested the perfect female advisor (and her wonderful team) to buy my business. Our styles were in line and the transition would be seamless.
That is until ‘the good old boys’ got involved. I was also having to deal with my broker dealer (financial services can be tricky). I’ll never forget that first conversation when I told the agency owner that I was selling. He flat out told me that I couldn’t and if I did sell, that I had to sell to him. But of course, in his opinion, he didn’t think that my business was worth all that much anyway. After a few more remarks like that, I refused to engage further.
Later, I was told that we’d have to have a Zoom call with the other ‘good ole boys’ that were really the bigwigs. I showed up for that meeting resolute knowing that I was doing what was best for my clients and for myself.
These ‘bigwigs’ told me that I had to sell my business to the agency owner or someone on his team. I don’t think I said very much in that meeting, I simply nodded my head a little. The whole time I was deeply amused that these men thought that they were telling me what to do. They thought that I I’d roll over and say, “OK whatever you want.”
There was one final zoom call where they were really going to let me have it. My husband, who is my biggest supporter, was standing in the doorway to my office watching me and smiling. I stood in front of my computer in my power pose, and they tried their best.
They came up with a few individuals that I really should sell my business to (according to them) and with each suggestion I said no and why they were not a good fit for my clients.
The ‘good old boys’ figured out that they couldn’t change my mind. And they finally gave in, but they did their best to make me feel bad, but I didn’t. Even though they said that I was being dumb, and I shouldn’t sell, I understood their comments were simply reflections of themselves.
Even though finalizing the sale took a couple of years, I know that I made a great decision. Because now I am here as an energy healer practitioner and a hypnotherapist with my own modality called H.E.A.L. 💙
I know that my soul called me to this space of being able to help people that are stressed, overwhelmed, and confused to find peace of mind, clarity, and ease.
I am here to empower others to live their dreams and to follow their bliss!🥰

Have you ever had to pivot?
I was taught early on that you had to work hard for everything. I went to school, received good grades, and got a job. I was a third-grade teacher for over 20 years. I worked hard for my money. As a teacher and single mom of two boys, I wanted to learn about saving, investing and retirement planning. I wanted to save and plan for my future. I loved learning about financial education. Then, I said yes to a wonderful opportunity to become fully licensed as a financial advisor. I wanted to learn as much as possible so that I could teach and help others. I was still teaching full-time during the day so as a financial advisor I would meet with people in the evenings and on weekends. It was tough, but I figured if I could build up my business and make as much as money as I did as a teacher, then I could leave teaching. The dream of being an entrenpreneur and working from home kept me going. And after 5 years of working 7 days a week and 16 hour days, I left my teaching career of over 20 years. Throughout my working life I’ve always asked my self this question – How can I help more people? Knowing that I would be helping more people as a financial advisor made it easy. Following my dream of being my own boss made it easy. The only thing that wasn’t easy was leaving my friends that I had been teaching with for 20 years. They didn’t understand…and what I’ve learned is that you can’t make others understand your choices. Now I realize that through my own growth and expansion, I was no longer on the same frequency as they were. All of those friends have dropped away and that’s ok. It’s all a part of following your destiny in life.
