Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Audrey Riggs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Audrey, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I’m Audrey Riggs, a pop- rock artist from Denver, CO. I’m 21 years old and I’ve been writing songs since I was about four. I released my first single in 2019 but it wasn’t until I released my single “I DON’T F***ING CARE!” in 2023, that I felt I found my mission.
I knew that I wanted to create music that emphasizes women’s empowerment and gives a voice to female anger. I’ve always been passionate about expressing feelings that are often minimized or ignored—especially those of women. It frustrates me how much of the music landscape is filled with love songs, while so many other emotions, especially anger and frustration, aren’t given the same space. By creating music that allows women to fully express themselves, I hope to challenge societal norms that say women can’t be angry or outspoken. This mission is personal to me because it gives me a platform not just to express my own truth but also to inspire others to embrace theirs.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Audrey Riggs, a 21-year-old pop-rock artist based in Denver, Colorado. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started writing songs as early as four years old and performed at open mics when I was nine. I was always drawn to the ability music had to convey raw emotions, `and that’s what I’ve aimed to capture in my own work. I was influenced by artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Alice Merton, and DYLAN, who infused their music with energy and honesty, which resonates with me deeply.
What sets me apart is my dedication to authenticity, both in my lyrics and in the energy of my performances. My music covers a wide range of topics, from feminine rage and empowerment to heartbreak and self-discovery. I’m proud that my live shows create a space where young women, and anyone who feels unconventional, can see themselves reflected on stage. My goal is for my audience to feel not only heard but also emboldened to express themselves confidently.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Being an independent artist involves wearing a lot of hats. My bassist and I handle everything from writing and producing our music to designing, selling, and shipping our own merch. We’re also in charge of our own marketing, graphic design, and performance planning. Managing a five-piece band means ensuring that we all stay creatively aligned and motivated, even when the return on investment is uncertain.
One of the biggest challenges is time management and making sure everyone feels valued. My advice for managing a team is to keep communication open and transparent. Be clear about expectations, and create a space where everyone can voice their ideas. Ensure that your people know that you are on their team, no matter what. If you stay genuine, treat people with respect, and make it clear that everything you’re doing is to further our collective success, your team will have your back and will be much more willing to adjust when needed. It’s also essential to celebrate the small wins, even when the bigger goals feel out of reach, to maintain high morale. Staying organized and collaborative helps us create something meaningful together.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is knowing that my music can be an outlet for someone else. When you are at a sports game and you hear the entire crowd singing a song, it means that every person singing the words has had a personal experience with that song; one that is completely different than all the people singing alongside them. Hearing that song can take you right back to that experience, that memory, that moment. Getting to be on the giving end of that equation is so rewarding. There’s nothing like the feeling of realizing that a song you’ve written resonates with someone’s experience or adds to the memory of a specific moment in their life. Artists before me have provided that emotional connection, and if I can offer the same through my music, then I’ve achieved something special. Having the ability to impact someone’s life through a song or performance is an incredible privilege that keeps me motivated as a creative.
