We were lucky to catch up with Lindsey Boedicker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Owning a business has completely changed my mindset. The most successful people always take risks. What is a risk? I like to say a risk is this: something worth giving it your all. What makes a risk so risky? All the possibilities of failure. Taking a risk in any business is about commitment. When I decided this year to commit more time than ever on growing through social media I knew there was going to be the risk of losing an account or inconsistencies of views and exposure to customers online in a saturated market. But I decided it was a risk worth taking. I spent endless hours going on TikTok live and selling Serenity The Brand clothing and jewelry (day and night.) I created a schedule that was overflowing and jammed packed. One day I went live for 11 hours!!! By creating a plan I was able to coordinate my next goal: opening a storefront. The risky decision to commit to a home for our first storefront location in Louisburg, KS felt so rewarding. Although spending my summer so focused on growing the business may have prevented me from the experiences other kids my age are entertaining. I’m happy to say if I hadn’t chosen the risk of being an entrepreneur I wouldn’t be taking this next big step.
Surrounding myself with empowering individuals who motivated me to work hard, commit, and accept every challenge is what got me here. My mom, Serenity has always taught me that consistent behavior, equals consistent results. I truly believe that opening the storefront this year is a result of consistent prayers, consistent hard work, and consistent affirmations!
Lindsey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Lindsey Boedicker, I own Serenity The Brand an online women’s clothing brand that creates a unique and peaceful shopping experience, with custom charm jewelry and one of a kind styles. I knew that I wanted to start a boutique ending my junior year of Highchool. I am most proud of how far I have come since I first started the boutique. Initially I started by thrifting and putting together “mini drops” on Instagram! Now I have a website, Instagram, and TikTok page full of content. What makes our boutique so unique is the shopping experience. Our goal is for customers to leave feeling more confident in their outfit, eager to learn more about Jesus, and grow in good Faith. The charm jewelry is a creative way for our customers to craft and design a product that reflects who they are and what they love!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
For me being online and using social media as a tool to grow your business can be overwhelming. I personally have endured a great amount of love and support from posting online for our boutique. But, I have also had issues with previous acquaintances/employees engaging in our social media lives to only bring negativity and hate comments to our community. Recently the profiles made by the person(s) were intimidating myself and my family behind a profile picture. Then proceeded to comment as if they were my family using disrespectful words. This was very hurtful to see happening on our live (a place where our customers come for a peaceful experience). In order to show resilience I had to remember to remain true to our personal standards and goal to spread kindness and compassion. I think allowing this to affect my business poorly would be a bad decision. That is why I have used it as a way to motivate Serenity The Brand’s customers to Be Kind Always!
How did you build your audience on social media?
I don’t think there is a manual or book of advice to give you. If you read every tutorial or step to be successful one may not do it? Why? Because they don’t believe. You have to want to start and simply begin by doing the best you can with the resources you have.
Collaboration is a great way to work towards growth. I remember when I first started I had my best friend help take photos! I invited local people to attend pop up shops and asked for them to post.
You don’t need a fancy start. Just start by hitting post and being YOU.
Consider staying active, involved, and intentional when communicating online with potential followers. Don’t be afraid to extend an olive branch to big brands to create opportunities for you to grow online!
