We were lucky to catch up with Lorena Somers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorena, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally during my childhood. Ever since, I was a child , my family would often find me coloring the faces in the newspaper. I was captivated by the idea of bringing new look through color and creativity. As I grew older, I started experimenting with makeup on my family and friends.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Lorena Somers, I’m a passionate makeup artist with deep love for creativity and self expression through makeup.
I’ve been a full time makeup artist for over 14 years now. I’m originally from Manila, Philippines. I moved to Carmel, Indiana the summer of 2013.
My journey to makeup makeup began in my childhood when I would color the faces in the newspaper.. This early interest blossomed into makeup as I grew older,
After experimenting with makeup on myself and my family. I decided to do it more seriously. I attended Maquillage Professionnell Makeup School, BGC Manila. Makeup Forever Academy, NYC and Aveda Institute, Indianapolis and various master classes when I get a chance while freelancing.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with diverse clients, from brides to fashion models. I always strive to make my clients feel good about their own unique features. My goal is to create a personalized look that reflect each individual’s personality and style.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is the joy and boost of confidence that my artistry can bring to clients.. When someone sits in my chair, they have a vision on how they want to look and being able to achieve that is incredibly rewarding.
Seeing the joy on their faces when they look in the mirror and love what they see is a powerful moment for me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey as a makeup artist is driven by a mission to empower individuals through self expression. My goal is create looks that celebrate their individuality. Through my artistry, I want to foster a sense of empowerment and self love.
