We were lucky to catch up with Alexa Lodato recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexa , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
When I was younger I would always take photos of my food before it became “a thing”. My parents were often curious as to why I was taking pictures of the food, as it seemed like such a silly thing to do. Going to college at the College of Charleston, around a ton of amazing restaurants and businesses, I continued to take photos and videos of food that I found but also cooked. This sparked my idea to start a food account on Instagram where I could share these experiences and recipes with others! At the time, it was just for fun. Mostly for me to keep track of everywhere I ate and everything I cooked. However, friends, family and even strangers began reaching out to me asking for recommendations or supporting my account that made me want to have @bellyvibesonlyy become something more than a food account. I loved how it brought people together from all different walks of life that all had one thing in common — they were interested in what I was eating!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Alexa Lodato and I run the account @bellyvibesonlyy on Instagram and TikTok. I create content for restaurants and businesses, but also create my own recipes or re-create others recipes. Something that sets me apart from others is the fact that my account is dual-focused. Most food accounts are either restaurant review based, or cooking based. @bellyvibesonlyy integrates both, which allows me to reach maximum creativity and keep track of literally everything I’ve eaten. I’m most proud of the fact that I spend around 15+ hours a week on @bellyvibesonlyy, while also working a full time job in insurance working over 40+ hours a week.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the fact that there’s no one telling me what I have to do. All ideas are my own, totally original and I can post them when I want to and how I want to.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think that the most effective strategy for growing my clientele is saying yes to everything. I’ve tried a ton of new restaurants I would’ve never tried if I didn’t have belly vibes. Saying yes to go into all sorts of restaurants has lead to many other restaurants reaching out and new people/followers finding me, which has helped me succeed significantly.
