We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Soupmakesitbetter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Soupmakesitbetter, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project would be my musical LP “Self Love Vol. 2” and I would also consider it to be my most intentional project. My mission with each track was to provide my listeners with strength and guidance along their own, personal self-love journeys as they got to experience mine. One of the biggest messages I promote in my music and as an artist is making sure people receive their flowers while they’re present here on this earth. What made this project even more extraordinary was being able to host my own listening party at “Daiboku”, a ramen restaurant listed in Austin Monthly’s “Best of ATX: Dining & Nightlife”. During set-up, I felt so incredibly grateful for the genuine bonds that I cultivated between the owners and the staff that led to one of the best nights of my life. I had the opportunity to laugh with strangers, grow closer to my family and friends and through it all I felt embraced and truly appreciated by my community.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I would like to consider myself a Hip-Hop artist/ event and energy coordinator. I started really understanding my purpose through my love for performing music sets at intimate house parties in Houston, TX & Austin, TX. When I started seeing crowds of 15 turn into 30 then into even greater numbers, I felt my true purpose and was able to visualize the power of togetherness. I feel like the service I provide is one that brings people closer, gives knowledge but always leaves you with a smile afterwards. My main goal with anything I put my hands on, is to always be transparent with the care that goes into it. The thing that sets me and my events apart is knowing that I am one of one and only I can create the atmosphere I desire. I believe that a clear view of self will always make you a true individual. I’ve never been someone that wanted to follow the crowd or curate events that cause stress to the community. My intention is to always make my people feel good and thought of. One of the things I’m most proud of and will continually be proud of is the fact I never quit! Being in a creative industry 10+ years comes with its ups and downs, peaks and valleys and sometimes complete stillness. To those who are interested in my story or working in a similar line of work as I am, the one thing I want you to know is to stay committed, stay diligent and move with pure intention. Personality always pierces the heart and I believe that’s the best way for people to feel truly connected to you!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A huge goal of mine is to open up a facility where artists from all over the world can gather and create music and art. In this space, I would love to host panels with various artists and individuals who hold great knowledge on how to be successful in this line of work. These panels would create an open space to discuss new ways creativity is being looked at and how we can shape the look, sound and feel of it for the better! In addition, I envision having rooms available to rent in this facility that have low fares allowing artists/creatives to stay for short periods of time.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Honestly, I felt like what’s been working best for me is utilizing my Instagram story as a way to see who takes the time to check-in with me and interact with my posts. Through that method, I’ve been reaching out to those people and sending my gratitude in order to build genuine bonds. I feel it is important to show love to the ones that show you love! Remember that meaningful data is always available for you if you look in the right places.
