Alright, Trevor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
So far, yes. It’s been difficult but also very exciting. I’ve been a “struggling musician” for a long time and it’s only been recently that it’s become a full time thing. Persistence, perseverance and endurance has been been the key in order for it to be a full time profession.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been playing music since I was a kid. Along the way I’ve had the privilege of meeting all sorts of folks within the music industry and they’ve all helped in different ways. I’m very grateful!
I play shows regularly, record my own music, as well as produce and write for other artists.
I’m most proud of seeing people smile and have a good time at shows.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is seeing how the stories I tell through songwriting can relate to other people. I’ve talked with so many people who have shared stories on whatever it was I was singing about was something they felt alone in and now feel related to. It’s one of the best things!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
As a musician, really any area, we tend to just focus on the “final product.” It’s no different with music. Most will just hear/see the final product and don’t see the hours that go into recording or editing videos for social media, etc.
