Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorena Balaguer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lorena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I do believe I was born with an almost predestined inclination for photography. As far back as my memories go, I had a curiosity and hunger for cameras and photos. I did take a class in college on the subject, but in all honesty the skills and technology and methods that I use today didn’t exist back then.
I would attribute my knowledge and skill to consistency and hard work. I never really did well in the classroom behind a desk. Picking up a camera, getting out there, ‘jumping into the deep-end, feet first’ so to speak is how I’ve always preferred to learn. Now don’t get me wrong, it was rough. I fumbled and tripped my way upwards, strengthening client relationships and figuring out what and how I liked to shoot via trial and error (and a couple of online tutorials looped endlessly). That was my life for years, and I wouldn’t change that experience for the world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, my name is Lorena Balaguer. Born in Argentina, lived in Uruguay, moved to Chicago and now living in Dallas. I’m a photographer who recently had the opportunity to turn my passion into my business.
I offer photo sessions for all occasions, special events and milestones. From physicals prints and canvases to digital albums, I get to help people save their memories for a lifetime. My favorites are the candid’s; people laughing, mid smile, or a simple embrace. I’m always on the hunt for that one shot that captures everything.
Each session is unique to me and so even though most photographer edit each gallery the same, I like to give my client an unique touch while keeping my base style in place ensuring every session is one of a kind. I understand not everyone is a natural in front of the camera and it can be intimidating. That’s where the importance of having a good client relationship comes in. We have a good time, talk and laugh and pose, and before they know it I’ve gotten an SD card full of their best angles.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being always true to my brand, committing to my clients and always delivering the galleries on time. I never promise something I can’t do.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing your work being displayed at your client’s home, shared with other people, or seeing it printed out on a magazine cover. That makes me so happy!
