We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diego Rivera. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diego below.
Diego, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Being a business owner was the best decision I made for my family.
I make my own hours and even take vacation when I want. It’s the best feeling!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in California. I was an iron worker and worked in construction for over 18 yrs. I moved to Ga and started working for a remodeling company and I got really acquainted with the business and thought I should start my own company. At first it was scary but the thought kept growing until I finally decided to go for it. I got my first job by passing out my business card and my first client referred me to a friend and it just kept flowing. I now make more than I was making in any of my previous jobs. Making over 6 figures is a blessing and never thought it was possible with just one single decision.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
This might not be the most usual way to start a business but I’m here to say you only need a few hundred dollars and the goal is to make it multiply.
I started my business with a couple hundred dollars I knew I didn’t want to get a loan and start with debt so I had to get the name out there and get business going fast. I did that by using some of that money to make business cards and flyers to pass out everywhere. Then I got my fist job a week later and then they referred me and that’s how business started flowing. After a few months I was able to get my work truck debt free from the business and everything just started flowing. I have stayed busy since then and have paid everything from what I generate.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I would say when I had to move from California to Georgia.
It was truly a huge risk because I don’t have family in Georgia so I knew I was going to have to start from scratch with minimal support.
However it has been great I started my business and I really think that move is what motivated me to do something different and take the risk.
