We recently connected with Briana Murphy and have shared our conversation below.
Briana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Absolutely, I believe I have developed a valuable approach in the realm of resume writing, particularly for the childcare industry.
In Corporate America, there are established norms for resumes—typically one to two pages, skill-based, and so on. However, in the childcare sector, these guidelines are less defined. To bridge this gap, I collaborated with agencies to identify what they seek in candidate resumes to ensure they stand out. Additionally, I consulted with families to understand their preferences regarding the information they would like to see in candidate resumes.
From these insights, I created tailored templates. One of these is a storytelling template that allows candidates to narrate their experiences in the first person, either in present or past tense. This approach helps to eliminate redundancy and effectively showcases their achievements. The second template follows a more traditional format with bullet points detailing their responsibilities, supplemented by a concise statement highlighting key achievements for each position.
These templates have garnered significant success within the industry.
Moreover, my support extends beyond resume creation. I provide guidance on how to effectively present your resume during interviews. While career coaching can offer straightforward advice to help you secure a position, I believe it is crucial to empower clients with the skills to articulate their resumes in interviews, as many people use their resumes as a reference point during discussions.
Briana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Briana Murphy, Founder of Your Nanny Resume LLC. I specialize in helping childcare agencies build strong candidates and assisting nannies in securing their dream roles through expertly crafted resumes. With over a decade of experience as a childcare provider, I offer services like resume writing, cover letters, and LinkedIn support. I go beyond just creating resumes by teaching clients how to confidently discuss their skills during interviews. I’m proud to have helped thousands of providers land interviews and jobs, making a lasting impact on their careers.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I pride myself on being unapologetically authentic. I’m a blunt, yet bubbly person, and I believe there’s a misconception that professionals must always present themselves in a formal, reserved way. I keep it real—I express myself openly, whether I’m cursing or speaking passionately. This authenticity is something people appreciate because it brings a genuine, relatable element to the table. Being true to who I am allows me to connect deeply with others and show that professionalism can coexist with being yourself.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Organic traffic plays a big role in my business growth. My personality naturally draws people in, and many clients come to me through word of mouth. I’m approachable, realistic, and flexible when things come up, which helps build trust and repeat business. Along with SEO practices and other marketing strategies, this authentic connection has been a key driver in attracting new clients and maintaining a steady flow of business. It’s a combination of good work, transparency, and relationships that makes a lasting impact.
