Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Martinez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Yes! In fact my family has just returned from a two week European vacation. It was incredible and we checked some bucket list items off our list. It was the perfect time to step away from the craziness of everyday life and enjoy some incredible experiences together. My husband and I prioritize family time. Creating memories with our girls is something that we will always treasure.
I will say though, it is nice to be refreshed and back to work ready to create memories for clients and friends.

Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am president of JLM Communications, a full-service public relations firm that helps create awareness for small to mid-sized businesses. I sort of fell into this industry but loved it from day one. I’ve been very fortunate to have incredible clients who have become family. We work together to create awareness about their business or service and pair them with partners who will help to enhance their offerings.
The common theme among all of my clients is the desire to give back. The world can be a challenging place but finding the good that is always there is a must. I am proud to be a connector between organizations in need and businesses that can support.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Be honest and do what you say you are going to do. It is as simple as that.
Working with media you want to make sure that you are as honest as possible. Everything can be used in a story, and you want to make sure that you are providing accurate information. You also need to get information in a timely manner. So many times there are tight deadlines and turnarounds. If you are delayed, you delay them, and a chain reaction happens. It is also important that your clients know the importance of being timely in responding. You want to be dependable both for your clients and for media partners. With you being a trusted resource, many times you will get story opportunities first because there is the trust that things will get done without hiccups or delays.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Always being available.
While you need to be reachable, there is really no need to be constantly available at all hours of the day and night. Things can wait a little bit. It is good for both your mental and physical health. You can reduce your stress. You can have more time to focus and you can handle projects with your complete attention rather than being so scattered. Ultimately, you will appreciate it and so will your clients and your loved ones.
