We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Rollins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
I definitely wish I would have made my business official sooner than I did. Prior to staying home with my daughter, photography was something I did as a way to make a little extra income but was very infrequent. I didn’t make it an actual LLC until this year and I wish I would have done it sooner! To make it an official business brings a sense of ownership and responsibility that I have thoroughly enjoyed maneuvering. I also feel like when you have LLC in your name, people take you more seriously and realize that it is no longer just a hobby, but a career!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My love for photography started at a very young age! I got my first camera when I was in 7th grade and it’s been a passion ever since. As for making it an official business, that started just last year! I had my daughter a month before Covid shut down the world and when I went back to teach for another year, I missed her so darn much. My husband and I talked and we decided the best thing for our family was for me to stay home with our girl, especially while she is little. BUT with him being a teacher, it quite literally cut our income in half. I had to find something to do to supplement at least part of my lost income and that’s where my passion for photography sprouted again! It’s been amazing to have something for myself, to get to still interact with people, and to also be able to stay home with my favorite girl!
Something I would love potential clients and followers to know about me is that I LOVE people! I want others to feel loved and accepted regardless of their backgrounds and beliefs. That’s why I love photography so much. I can see the beauty in others and I love to capture the moments that other people might miss.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Before I started my photography business, I didn’t know much about the Instagram algorithm or how impactful scheduling posts could be! I wish I had learned about them BEFORE starting my business instead of during, but it has allowed me to grow and mold to my target audience.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is to capture the beauty in people that they themselves might miss. As a creator, I love to capitalize on the moments people exchange during a session, whether it’s a couple or a family. There’s beauty in it all and my goal is for others to see the beauty in themselves as well.
