Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most challenging periods of my life occurred when I was finishing my degree. I was determined to graduate early, so I took on a grueling schedule: working two jobs while handling 20 credit hours each semester. I was constantly on the move, balancing between leading tours under the sweltering sun and serving as a mentor for students needing support. It was intense, but I managed to push through and graduate before I was legally able to enjoy a celebratory drink.
Soon after graduation, I moved to Houston, which felt like a fresh start. I lived in a high-rise apartment, but despite the chic surroundings, I felt a profound sense of loneliness and isolation. The work-life balance I had once juggled seemed nonexistent, and my role at the hospital exposed me to a lot of sadness, which compounded my own feelings of depression. The isolation and lack of community weighed heavily on me.
Amidst this struggle, I knew I needed a change. I reached out and discovered a wellness community through yoga and Pilates. This new path not only helped me manage my mental health but also reignited my sense of purpose. I became certified in yoga and Pilates through Balanced Body, using these practices to improve my well-being and share that positive impact with others.
Joining a book club also played a pivotal role in my journey. It introduced me to a vibrant, supportive group of friends who helped lift my spirits and broaden my sense of community. Today, I am grateful for the resilience that carried me through those tough times and proud of how I’ve transformed my challenges into opportunities to help others.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One significant lesson I had to unlearn was the tendency to sacrifice my own needs for the comfort of others. Growing up, I often felt like I had to earn love and approval, which led me to become a chronic people pleaser. As a result, I learned to walk on eggshells and prioritize others’ needs to avoid problems and seek approval.
This habit persisted into my adult life, where I continued to put others’ needs ahead of my own in both personal and professional settings. I believed that by constantly pleasing others and being agreeable, I could secure love and acceptance. However, I eventually realized that this pattern was detrimental to my well-being and self-worth.
The turning point came when I engaged in inner child healing. This process taught me that by consistently putting others first, I was undermining my own value and needs. I learned that self-worth should not be contingent upon pleasing others but should be rooted in self-respect and self-care. As a result, I’ve worked hard to unlearn the habit of people-pleasing. I now prioritize my own needs and well-being, which has led to healthier relationships and a more balanced life. This shift has not only strengthened my personal life but has also contributed to a more authentic and resilient approach in my professional endeavors.
