We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cindy Hing a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cindy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
We are currently producing two exciting shows: Day Tripping in The Palm Beaches and Fest Quest of The Palm Beaches, both which I have the pleasure of hosting. I am grateful for the support of the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission. Their sponsorship has been instrumental in bringing our vision to life. These shows allow us to dive deep into the heart of Palm Beach County, uncovering everything from local attractions to hidden gems to the people behind the scenes.
What truly excites me is the chance to connect with the community, learning about their personal journeys and the passions that drive them. Each story adds a new layer to my understanding of what makes Palm Beach County not just a destination, but a place rich with history, culture, and a deep sense of pride. Whether it’s a local business owner sharing their backstory or exploring the county’s fascinating history, it’s these personal connections that make the work so rewarding.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Born in the heart of Georgetown, Guyana, and moved to Miami, Florida as a child, where I grew up and went to school. My early experiences in two very different places have deeply influenced my perspective and journey.
While studying at Florida International University, I gained valuable experience interning at various television and radio stations throughout South Florida. This hands-on experience eventually led to a producer position at South Florida PBS (WPBT2), where I had the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of shows and it was an incredibly rewarding experience.
In 2023, my PBS colleague Sergio Figuera and I co-founded Jetsetter Films, LLC, a media production company dedicated to creating engaging, story-driven content. Currently, we’re working on three exciting projects. First is Land of Mermaids, a documentary exploring the rich cultural influence of mermaids in Florida. This documentary is set to premiere at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival in November 2024.
In addition, we are producing Day Tripping in The Palm Beaches, a travelogue show that offers viewers curated one-day itineraries highlighting the best restaurants, attractions, and activities in Palm Beach County, all while promoting sustainable and hassle-free travel options.
Lastly, our festival-focused show, Fest Quest of The Palm Beaches, shines a spotlight on the vibrant year round festival scene in the area. These projects allow us to bring local stories and experiences to a broader audience while celebrating the unique culture of Palm Beach County.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a deep passion for helping people. Hosting and producing shows for Palm Beach County gives me the platform to not only highlight the incredible stories and hidden gems of the area, but also to connect with the community in meaningful ways. It’s incredibly rewarding to use my work to bring people together and share the experiences that make this region so special.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting out in this business was far from easy. Like many in the industry, I faced my fair share of challenges—long hours, tough competition, and moments of doubt. My resilience came from my passion for storytelling and my belief in the value of what we were creating.
