We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyne Stecklein. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyne below.
Tyne , appreciate you joining us today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
I’ve been very fortunate to have worked for some incredible artists over my career. The best “boss” I ever had was the one and only Cher. I was chosen to dance for her residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas back in 2008. I then went on to act alongside Cher in the film Burlesque, and tour with her on her D2K tour. What made her so amazing to work for was how thoughtful she was of her entire team from the band, dancers, production crew, and so on. After a year at Caesars Palace I left the show as I wanted to explore new opportunities in my career. I was still invited to dance with her again many times after that in the coming years because of the respect and loyalty she had to the artists on her team. She is such an icon, and yet she’s so incredibly down to earth, funny, and caring, and this taught me at a very young age (I was 20 when I started dancing for her) how to remain humble and human no matter your level of talent or success.
Tyne , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a performer as well as life and confidence coach originally from Aurora, Colorado. I’ve spent the past two decades working as a professional dancer, actress, and painter in Los Angeles in the film and TV industry.
While I still enjoy performing myself, my current passion lies in mentoring and coaching performers as well as supporting women navigating life’s challenges! After becoming a mother, my perspectives greatly shifted and I followed my curiosity and began to study Chinese Alchemy, spiritual psychology, meditation + mindset work, as well as life coaching. I offer one-on-one zoom coaching sessions, as well as women’s group workshops from time to time. My 1:1 coaching offerings can include mindfulness and confidence building, spiritual life coaching, emotional connectivity to our art and performance, finding and using our creativity, audition tips/industry advice and insights, and intuitive abstract painting to move through emotions and de-stress. I customize each session to the individual clients’ needs and requests.
I’ve been able to live out my dreams of becoming a professional dancer and actress with great success. However the entertainment industry is full of ups and downs so I had to learn to master rejection, as well as to hugely value my self-worth through it all. I think my unique path is what makes me stand out from other coaches. I have boldly and successfully followed my dreams, and I really want to support others in doing so as well.
I love to work with women specifically since as I mentioned I’m a mother of (soon to be) 3 kids. Therefore navigating motherhood and a career is something I can speak to from experience. With my coaching, I want to support many women on their path to creating a life they love and are excited to wake up to every day!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Every child starts out with loads of creativity, and then unfortunately certain life experiences cause many people to grow up and think that they are not a creative adult. There’s now scientific research that proves how amazing art and creativity are for our brain, health, and well-being. So not only am I so grateful to get to do many art forms that I love for a living, but I know that it is an incredible way of working through my emotions and therefore keeping my mental health in a good place.
The most rewarding aspect of my work is that I love the process of creating. I feel so inflow when I’m dancing, acting, painting, and now coaching. I find amazing creativity coming from source (for me God) as I’m helping support women through their journey. And in fact one of the services I offer is “creativity coaching” to help people find and tap into their creativity, as I really believe it is within all of us!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As I mentioned, the entertainment industry is full of many ups and downs no matter how successful you are. On many occasions I had to deal with the rejection of being told I wasn’t right for the job for one reason or another. But along my journey I booked what was a dream job for almost every professional dancer in the world. I was one of two females chosen to dance for Michael Jackson on what would have been his last tour. This ultimately turned into the making of the film “This is it,” because as we know MJ passed away during the rehearsal process for that show. Not only did I lose a dream job and an incredibly lucrative salary for a dancer for the next handful of years, but at the time I hadn’t experienced much loss yet, so I was also trying to process grief for the first time.
There wasn’t much at the time that felt like it would compare to this booking as a dancer, so it left a lot of the dancers feeling unsettled and unsure of our next steps. Instead of quitting the business and moving back home to Colorado, I poured my heart into my acting training. I found so much cathartic and emotional release in doing so, and a whole new art form that I was just as passionate about as my dancing! I used the arts to get me through that experience instead of giving up on my dreams.
