Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Otis Giambra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Otis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment of time that I ever made was a simple Craigslist ad. I had moved from Phoenix to Albuquerque in 2018, and I knew no one in New Mexico. This was a career move in my normal job. I’ve played music for a long time, but mostly for myself and within a duet in Arizona. I thought I could maybe start up a band in New Mexico, because I’ve always wanted to do that. I placed an ad saying I’d like to get a honky-tonk country band going on. That’s my favorite kind of music. I had lived in Nashville for a while, and at that time I vowed to make that happen some day. It took about 25 years, but it happened.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I like to play old country music, and if that’s a craft, then I have one. I’m proud that I’ve stuck with it over the decades… that’s my musical time frame… and that I’m not just playing around the house anymore. People hear it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing I’ve seen, again, this is music… is when people move to the sounds I play. When they dance and tap their foot and clap, I’m happy. I’ve reached a stranger.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. There are very old versions of old-time and country music that I like to keep alive. Times change, but origins don’t.
