We were lucky to catch up with Zeal Levin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zeal , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
“Triple Bueno” was founded with the purpose of making the world a better place with good music. We believe that good music with a positive message, a good beat and a good vibe…well thats Triple Bueno! We have played shows across California from festivals to club dates to weddings and more, the band has been crafting an unforgettable live show that leaves audiences wanting more good. The band is currently working at Lemonteal Records and Hermosa Sound Lab recording our debut studio album.
Zeal , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started playing music at a young age, becoming a multi-instrumentalist in middle school and honing my skills at the music program at Santa Barbara City College. In addition to my time studying guitar with Tony Ybarra at Santa Barbara City College, I was able to get a solid foundation of rhythm section instruments while on the production crew at Jazz Camp West. My deep love of music has pushed me to learn many styles and play with a ton of different musicians, especially since moving to Los Angeles in 2015. After releasing my debut solo album ‘Sending Fire” in 2017, I joined the Kevin Sousa Band and learned rock guitar while playing amazing shows with my best friends. We performed at the BeachLife Festival twice, headlined festivals across Los Angeles, founded a recording studio called ‘Hermosa Music Company’ and recorded Kevin’s album ‘Hermosa & Free’.
Currently I am producing folk/country artist, ‘Mikey Jerome’, the debut studio album from ‘Triple Bueno’ and working with other projects in the Los Angeles area.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve been a professional musician since I was in middle school (my first paid gig!) and I have also had many different jobs: recreation leader / recreation specialist, mover, music teacher, audio engineer, live stream operator, video editor, guitar tech, and the list goes on! I did all of these jobs while still performing and writing music professionally. Believe it or not, all of these jobs have helped my art in one way or another and made me a better musician and business person.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Collaboration!! I’ve always been inspired by other musicians and have worked with a lot of different people over the years. As I’ve gotten the chance to work with even more artists and creatives I have found that I have learned so much from others that I wasn’t even aware I didn’t know. My dad always says “you don’t know what you don’t know” and boy was he right! It is such a great feeling to support your friends and enjoy the ride as we all succeed in our various efforts.
