We recently connected with Mackenna Allard and have shared our conversation below.
Mackenna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
I think there’s a lot of competition in my industry and it can be really discouraging. There’s a lot of people who want to gatekeep their success and refuse to collaborate or bounce ideas off eachother. I find the most success in building and sharing in the community. I think there’s room for healthy competition AND collaboration to share with eachother. I’ve built a wonderful group of friends who we can comfortably share tips and tricks of the trade.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in Fort Collins and currently reside in a teeny tiny mountain town. I’ve always found great inspiration in the nature colorful Colorado surrounds us in. I started drawing when I was young and it was something I felt passionate about since day one. Being creative translated over into many different elements of my life I pursued a career in hairstyling, tattooing and graphic designing in my teens and early twenties. I started to find comfort in more stable career choices and soon left the world of art for a stuffy job. After I had my first child I went back to my first day of work and it all hit me. Between leaving my baby and working in an uninspiring position I needed to make a change. That’s when Colorado Peach Creations was born. It started as what I’d consider a hobby job and then grew faster than I could imagine. Being in a small ranching community I was inspired by western wear and the beautiful land we live on. I ordered my first batch of hats and a wood burner. Before I knew it my artistic skills changed and developed like never before. The interest people showed in my work was truly out of a dream. I’ve now been a full time artist for a year+ and I get to spend my days creating and stay home with my babies. It’s a dream come true to say the least.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I’ve been fortunate enough to be picked up by some amazing local stores and attend great events. Everyone that comes through is a potential new customer. I had a small background with marketing and building a strong social media presence has made the biggest difference for me. It’s such a cool feeling to spot one of my hats “in the wild” and know that even total strangers and finding me.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media following isn’t huge but they are truly organic. The impact one strong lead verses 10 weak ones is substantial. I’ve spent many hours researching marketing techniques and strategies. One thing I do very differently is instead of creating content trying to be “viral” i create for people who really want to see what I’m working on.
