Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sierra Knell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sierra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My favorite endeavor this year has been my journey as a beekeeper. When I was little I stepped on a ground hornets nest and got stung all over, ever since then I’ve been terrified of bees, wasps, and basically anything that buzzes and flies.
I later learned the difference between bees and wasps and how special bees are and what a beautiful impact they have on the earth. I decided to get bees and learn how to keep them as a way to move through my fear and face it head on.
Learning to overcome my fear of bees has been so rewarding and has taught me a lot about how fear tends to survive in the stories we’ve attached to and believe about ourselves. One day I decided I didn’t want this to be my story anymore so I dove into beekeeping and I’m quickly realizing my fear has transformed into one of my favorite parts about myself.
I’ve had so much fun documenting my journey and it’s really connected with my audience. I love creating content around bees and the people are loving it! I also had the opportunity to collab with the company I got my beehive from and I’ve had a few brands reach out sending me their honey skincare lines and what not, so it’s pretty fun to see how the story of the bees is reaching different markets and audiences!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As well as being a beekeeper and nature lover I also work full time as a social media manager! For the last two years I’ve been the head of social media for the Gem Studio, but as of a week ago I’m now the head of social media for a company called Thread Wallets!
I’ve always been creative, I love painting, and getting my hands on just about any craft. Hobby Lobby and Home Depot are my favorite stores.
This love for creative expression eventually led me to find my way stumbling into social media management and content creation for brands and a variety of companies!
I love it and it’s been so rewarding to watch companies grow and have a more cohesive brand presence!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I think everyone should be required to read “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert, not just people who categorize themselves as “creatives”. Her approach to creativity and inspiration is so refreshing and compelling. My favorite philosophy I’ve adopted is her perspective on how we receive ideas. She believes that all ideas already exist within the universe. There are as many ideas as there are stars. As you free up space in your own mind then an idea star will fall down and it will want to work with you essentially. So this really takes the pressure off of us to come up with ideas. We really just need to create more space within ourselves and be open!
How did you build your audience on social media?
People don’t want to be sold to anymore. Whether that’s you trying to sell your product, your art, or yourself. What they want is a story. So find your voice and find what makes you authentic, stand out and tell your story! People also want to feel like they are along on the journey with you. So make your audience feel involved and feel like they are a part of whatever project or process you’re showcasing. Then they feel ownership of that thing and that establishes loyalty!
Just be you, find your voice, and then have that be your yellow brick road!
