Today we’d like to introduce you to Quaran Ahmad
Hi Quaran , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Quaran Ahmad and I’m a multimedia artist from Chicago. I’m also a current student attending Howard University, where I major in Architecture. Since I was young, I’ve always had an artistic eye paired with visionary intentions. With my creativity, I create new worlds through photography, videography, poetry, and music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in life is ever particularly good or bad, everything just is. As soon as you reformat every “roadblock” as redirection, you’ll see that every missed opportunity or mistake was intended to teach you something beneficial in the long run. Moments where I’ve felt underappreciated or unnoticed have shaped my mentality to appreciate every bit of support I have and will have in life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in storytelling. My means in which I tell stories depend on which medium I’m feeling drawn to. Sometimes I’ll create a photography concept around capturing many people’s portraits. Other times, I’ll have a personal anecdote I would want to evoke through singing and music production. I have many ambitions and desires in this life, so there will never be a point to which I can sit down and say, “that’s enough”, I will always have an inner drive. My newest project is a documentary movie called “Days Before BURN”, which is a behind the scenes look into my documentary and event series, BURN. BURN has been an extreme successful project for my team and I. Through the art of storytelling, we have established ourselves as a pillar in the creative community of the Washington D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My only advice for young artists and creative thinkers is to study the greats. When I was younger, I found my inspirations early on, and began studying their success stories through watching interviews and reading their biographies. You can’t copy what they did, because it’s already done. You can’t copy why they did it, because you are your own individual. You can’t copy when they did it, because it happened. You can always copy HOW the greats found their success in your own personal pursuits. Kobe Bryant had to earn his status as one of the greatest NBA players based on hard work and affirmation. Steve Jobs failed many times in his business practices with Apple, leading to him even getting fired for a brief period. Though as we remember him today, we associate Jobs as the savior of Apple and the Einstein of Silicon Valley.
Burn the boats. Copy the how. Never give up.
