Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Hembry

Hi Brooke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

Five years ago, I opened Bmaes Boutique’s virtual doors with just a few items hanging on a rack in the spare bedroom of my first home. Fast forward to today, I’m hitting dream numbers while staying completely debt-free, and I’ve had the joy of keeping my little man home with me since he was born. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself because it’s surreal living out this dream.

So much has happened since 2019. When the pandemic hit in 2020, it felt like the world stood still. My small business thankfully survived, and I gave birth to my baby boy amidst it all. Thanks to the pandemic, I was allowed to work my 9-5 job from home, which was a blessing at the time because it allowed me to also keep my little man home with me. Juggling my job, running my business, and being a stay-at-home mom was challenging, but it taught me the power of resilience.

I’ve always been cautious about how I spend my money, so when it was time to quit my 9-5 to scale my business, I couldn’t force myself to do it. It was terrifying. What if I failed? What if I didn’t bring in enough to pay the bills? God had other plans.

After years of working two full-time jobs and being a stay-at-home mom, God forced my hand in the decision. After about two months of relocating my family from Arkansas to Nebraska to be closer to my side of the family, I found out the place I had worked at for years was eliminating my position.

I cried. I questioned. I blamed myself. I was beyond upset. Then I brushed my hair, painted my nails, put on my makeup, and went to work.

Since then, my business has seen a 443% increase in total sales. You can’t tell me that’s not God leading the way! I would have NEVER quit that job, but He knew bigger things were in store for my family and me. He believed in me, knew I could do it, and knew my hard work would pay off. God’s plan is always the best.

Since starting Bmaes, it’s been my goal to help empower and give confidence to other women. I’m extremely proud to say that I believe I’ve now helped thousands of women since I’ve been in business.

Over the last five years, of course, sales have grown, but so many other cool things have happened along the way too. I’ve befriended some amazing people, worked with some of my favorite influencers, had my brand showcased at a celebrity event, and lots more exciting things in the works.

It hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies. It’s been a lot of sleepless nights, sacrifices, and tears, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s taught me so much, and I get to live out my dream and spend every day with my favorite little human in the world, my son. I’m just so incredibly thankful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

While the journey has been incredibly rewarding, it hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles I faced was during the early days of starting Bmaes Boutique. Balancing the demands of running a business, working a full-time job, and being a new mama was challenging. There were countless late nights, early mornings, and moments of self-doubt as I tried to navigate this new chapter in my life.

Becoming a new mom and learning how to balance two full time jobs on top of keeping my son home with me was challenging to say the least. If you’re a mom and an entrepreneur you know the mom guilt feeling of when you’re working and then worrying about not working enough when your business and family income relies on you.

Thankfully I was able to create a good schedule where I worked HARD while he napped and when he was asleep so I could really focus on quality time during the day with him. Now that he’s a little bit older, he loves helping me work by packing orders and tagging new arrivals. It’s just the best thing in the world having him by my side every single day. I’m just so beyond blessed.

The pandemic in 2020 brought its own set of obstacles. Like many small business owners, I worried about the survival of my business as the world around us seemed to come to a standstill. I had to adapt quickly and get creative while finding ways to pivot my business model to keep going.

Another significant struggle was losing my steady income 9-5 job to focus solely on growing my business. The fear of failure and the responsibility of providing for my family weighed heavily on me. It took a huge leap of faith to take that step, but looking back, I know it’s exactly what I needed to do for so many reasons.

Through it all, I continuously reminded myself that with hard work, determination, and faith, I could overcome any obstacle thrown my way.

While the journey hasn’t always been easy, each challenge has served as an opportunity for growth and learning. I’m a big believer that growth doesn’t come from being comfortable. These challenges have taught me to learn to be flexible, stay consistent, and the importance of not giving up.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?

What I like most about the Omaha metro area is the sense of community. The people here are always willing to rally together in times of need. When our surrounding areas were hit hard by tornadoes, witnessing the community come together with volunteers and donations was truly inspiring. The willingness of people to help their neighbors speaks volumes. And, of course, I can’t forget about my love for Husker football!
