We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Kilgore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on would have to be my self expression series. It’s dear to me because I get to express myself and different phases that I have experienced. Each piece represents a different aspect or situation I have gone through in my life. I hope that my stories help someone through their trying times and let them know that there’s light that can be found in their darkness.

Jasmine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jasmine Kilgore, I’m a Florida based multimedia artist. I started in art at a young age. In the 3rd grade, one day I noticed that one of my friends was drawing tweety bird and I became interested, so I asked her to borrow her folder over the weekend to practice sketching the cartoon. I practiced over and over til I was able to freehand tweety bird and from there, there is where my artistic journey took off. I started creating tweety bird in different styles to the point my classmates started putting in requests for sketches where I did charge a small fee. During my free time, I continued to practice different cartoons like Aladdin, Mickey Mouse, etc., at this point I knew that I wanted to be a cartoonist/animator.
When I got to high school, I explored other aspects of art like perspective drawing, painting, digital art and film editing. Once I learned perspective drawing more, I drew a blueprint of my dream home. As I graduated from high school I continued to explore different artistic styles/aspects. I enrolled in college as an art major however ended switching my major to an AA with a focus on character animation. Throughout my college years I explored a lot different techniques of art like painting, sculpturing and animation.
Post college I started my small business with doing art commissions where I created different designs for clients. I became interested in portraiture and digital art in the last few years during that time, I have been creating portraits, graphic designs and abstract designs digitally. I have had the opportunity to showcase my art in different shows locally including the famous art exhibition called Black Girl Art Show. Today I still continue to create self expression designs and creations for those who will ever resonate with them.
My art design business by the name of A.U.E by J. Denese mission is to create everlasting memories for my clients. I create anything from portraits, graphic and conceptual designs.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I was that I would have taken more class about traditional painting.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to express or tell your story through creativity that resonates with others.
