We were lucky to catch up with Charity Moua recently and have shared our conversation below.
Charity , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is taking me out and later on surprising me for my birthday! I’ve had so many birthday surprises and parties that are just as amazing but nothing can truly beat this one.
A little backstory as to why it was so special was because recently in the summer, we found out my dad had a very rare and aggressive cancer. It was so bad that he started from stage 1 going straight to stage 4 in a span of three months. Before that, I was planning so many ways to celebrate my 21st birthday. There was talks of traveling, a birthday party and spending time with family and friends. Due to my father’s condition, I didn’t really have the motivation to celebrate. I know that celebrating your 21st is a big thing but I just didn’t have the heart to.
One day, one of my best friends called me to clear everything off from my schedule for the evening of my birthday. I was super excited and did just that.
That day her and another one of my best friends, took me out to eat out at KPOT which is a Korean BBQ and Hot Pot place! We ate until we were so full! And what made it even more special is that some of my church members worked at KPOT and did a whole birthday ceremony for me! It made me feel so happy.
After the amazing food, we headed back to my house because they picked me up. They came inside to see my parents but my parents didn’t seem to be home.
My friends insisted on going to put something in my room but I was hesitant because my room was a bit messy. I eventually agreed and we went to my room!
Then all of a sudden, I opened the door and my family shouted “SURPRISE!” They had decorated my room and had a birthday cake for me! They sang “Happy Birthday” and I truly felted so loved. I am so grateful and thankful to have just such loving family and friends!
I truly believed that I wasn’t going to celebrate my birthday and that everyone had forgotten, but little did I know, they were preparing something amazing!
I believe I knew true kindness through my best friend. I say this because later on she posted a video of a little vlog of her doing the preparations and getting everything ready for my birthday. To be loved by someone so kind is the best gift to have.
Charity , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Charity Moua! I am a full time student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing! With Marketing, I love to focus on the advertising, and social media side of things. I am a content creator that loves being creative and keeping up with the latest trends! My main focus is more on lifestyle, beauty and fashion! I love creating content not only for me but for others as well! I am pretty experienced with working with different social media platforms that I use as a portfolio of my work! Along side managing social media platforms, I love to host and create events that many people love to enjoy!
On the side, I am a model within the KC metro area! For a couple of years now, I have been going in and out of modeling and recently this year, I began doing more and more modeling opportunities! I really got into the modeling community where I was in two previous fashion shows; Kansas City Fashion Week, & Heartland International Fashion Week! I recently walked for the Kansas City Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 Season in September! I was even able to host my own fashion show at my community college! I was able to help coach many of the models from my showcase and it has helped me grow and learn so much about myself!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Yes, so something that has really helped me with my reputation within my market is definitely networking with other people whether it involves content creating or modeling. A lot of people talk about networking but never about how to do it.
When it comes to networking, it’s just something that you have to practice. How to start is learning how to start conversations, or learning to introduce yourself in a way that will grab the person’s attention or interest.
As I learn more networking skills and get continuous practice, it has helped me become so confident which has opened up so many opportunities for me!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Yes, of course! I have built my audience on my social media through networking and understand the social media algorithms!
Networking as I’ve mentioned, is a great skill to have! I am very involved in my modeling community, where we share events and opportunities with each other! They have been so loving and truly supportive of everything I do! How I started networking was my first fashion show with Kansas City Fashion Week! I was super scared and nervous and everyone was older than me and more experienced! But I just had the motivation to at least talk to one person at each event I did with KCFW!
Not only in person has it been great but on social media too! One thing I do is continuously interact with peoples posts! People don’t realize it but as you interact with other people’s content whether it’s commenting, liking, or sharing, social media platforms are seeing that and are most likely going to push your content out more.
My advice is learning how to network and learning about different social media algorithms because they WILL go hand in hand.
