We were lucky to catch up with Danny Morrison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danny, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Back in my hometown of Bakersfield, California, I noticed there was a dearth of Black-owned Businesses getting attention. Yes, we had an abundance of wonderful businesses that had perennial ties to the city, but advertising and marketing was too expensive for them to get the word out.
So I took it upon myself to start a campaign. For us… BY US. I coined it my “Bolster Black Bakersfield” Campaign and charged businesses a minimal fee for a high-quality and TV ready commercial that highlighted the greatness of their respective business and brand. And it TOOK OFF.
So much so, I was invited to come down to Los Angeles along with my TV/Radio experience to “bolster” the Black-owned Businesses here in LA. Such a blessing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Danny Morrison and I have been a Multimedia Personality for a combined 20+ years in the City of Bakersfield, CA, Fresno, CA and now in the City of Los Angeles, CA.
I also consider myself to be a Social Influencer, Community Activist and a Motivational Speaker.
I am the Owner/Founder of Danny Morrison Media. A Black-owned and Operated Marketing Agency committed to amplifying the voices of Black/African Americans. Its customized content specializes in “bolstering” Black-owned Businesses and Nonprofits in a continual effort to “Bolster Black LA.”
Formerly host of “The Danny Morrison Show” on KBLA Talk 1580, prior to my trek to LA, I was the host of “The Danny Morrison Radio Show” with Forge 103.9 in Bakersfield and Forge 95.3 in Fresno. I was also an On-Air Personality with CHR/Rhythmic Hot 94.1 (KISV-FM) for 15+ years.
From Black Lives Matter to VotingRights/Engagement to Police Brutality, the overarching “Danny Mo Show” is a Community Call to Action created for the sole purpose of highlighting our most treasured community advocates, fighting for the underrepresented and underserved, giving a voice to the voiceless and for CHANGE.
My #howlong Healing Tour finds me and my team visiting multiple correctional facilities, youth groups, schools and more throughout California with a musical, spoken word and motivational speaking-filled message of hope and determination.
Back in 2016, as creator of the #howlong Project, our anti-violence music video “Self Destruction 2.0” went viral and started a movement (The #howlong Movement) that seeks to organically change societal thinking for young people in light of gun and gang violence.
The following multimedia venture “The Eracism Project” was released in November 2018. A “hybrid term” for “Erase Racism” that took a multicolored cast of Hip-Hop MC’s and gave them a chance to rhyme about how racism affects them in their everyday lives. The project sparked “Eracism Project: Live Discussions” in educational institutions and groups all over Kern County.
And in 2020, Danny Morrison Media released ALL-FEMALE “The Reconstruction Project.” A POWERFUL song and music video that tackles the topics of abortion, domestic violence, sexual harassment, rape/sexual assault and other issues to create awareness and empathy in light of the #metoo Movement. It hopes to promote discussion and subsequent healing through everyone that experiences it.
I prefer to spend my time using my platforms to inspire my listeners and followers, mentoring children, performing motivational speeches, and giving back to the same community I was raised in via countless hours of community service. I am now creating friendships and collaborations to continue that same work in the City of Los Angeles and all across the country via my #BolsterBlackLA vehicle.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Never assume that the people closest to you will assist you in keeping your business afloat.
My mentor once told me, “Write 10 names on a piece of paper that you KNOW will keep your business rolling as you build.”
I handed it to him. HE RIPPED IT UP.
He then told me to write the NEXT 10.
I did. I handed it to him. HE RIPPED IT UP. WHEW! 😡
He then told me to write the NEXT 10.
I did. I handed it to him. HE RIPPED IT… IN HALF.
He handed me the bottom 5.
And handed that to me.
And he was right.
My biggest financial supporters are those who didn’t even know me a year ago.
And I feel blessed to be able to fashion new relationships here in LA.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My newest partnership is with Sarah Harris. She is the CEO/Founder of the Black Business Association. She is also the Owner of Suite Life SoCal Magazine. And check this out…
She has highlighted me in her magazine TWICE since I arrived in LA. Once when we initially launched KBLA Talk 1580 in 2021 and again earlier this year with my new business Danny Morrison Media. And I could tell by the way she conducted business and created content that she was a kindred spirit of mine.
She LOOOOVES our community the same way I do. She is passionate about the plight of Black/African Americans and strives to amplify our voices in every area of commerce and community. And from the moment we shared a phone call, we both knew we had something special.
I treasure our partnership and I treasure our friendship even more. She’s a Diamond here in LA. And I’m honored to “Bolster Black LA” alongside such a Queen.
