We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wade Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Wade thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents did everything right because they loved us and always showed it in word and deed. My parents always did the best they could to attend my football games, boxing matches and track and field meets. My parents always provided a healthy home to live in.
Wade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began writing early in life. I always wanted the pen to bleed the ink onto the paper. I always have tried to write songs, poems, etc. Working out has always been a good discipline for me… I work hard at my craft. I sound different from most comedians because I have a very thick southern accent. I’m proud of my ability to always attempt to make shows or open mics. Open mics are what we call “gym”. It’s practice.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
2018 was interesting. My best friend from Alabama died during the month of my birthday so that was a challenge. 3 months later I lost 5 people in 5 days in 3 different states counting Alabama, Louisiana and Texas. That was hard. I’m wiser and stronger.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The people. The laughs. The smile I see on people’s faces. The laughter and energy from the shows is true healing.
