Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorenzo Wong. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lorenzo , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve always believed in the power of community because it’s the connections we build together that truly shape and uplift us. As someone passionate about marketing and social media, my path has been shaped by a blend of creativity and community-building, backed by a background in Communication from the University of California, Los Angeles. For me, it’s not about chasing numbers or putting on a show—it’s about creating spaces where people can be themselves and find something meaningful. Honestly, I never thought I’d end up as a content creator; I just followed what felt natural to me, and that’s what led me here. Social media, in my experience, is about fostering real conversations and making sure people feel like they belong.
One of the moments that really shaped my perspective was being a panelist for the Women’s Wear Daily Beauty CEO Summit in 2024. Sharing the stage with the CEO of Bubble Skincare and my fellow brand ambassadors was an eye-opening experience for me because it made me realize what truly resonates with Gen Z. We had a transparent discussion about the value of authenticity in today’s world, and it wasn’t just a trendy word—it’s something people genuinely care about. That experience showed me how important it is to stay authentic in my brand partnerships, whether I’m working with companies such as Bubble Skincare, Beekman 1802, or Fabletics. It’s about finding brands that align with my values and maintaining a genuine connection throughout the collaboration.
I’ve always been curious, and that’s helped me grow. My time at UCLA pushed me to keep learning, and that’s something I’ve held onto. Whether through formal education or elsewhere, I keep searching for new ways to improve—not because I think I need to know everything, but because I love learning and staying adaptable in a fast-paced industry.
It hasn’t always been easy, though. Like many people, I’ve dealt with self-doubt. Social media can feel intimidating at times, and I’ve definitely had moments where I questioned if my voice mattered. But with the support of my close friends, I learned to push through those feelings. They reminded me that staying consistent and true to myself would pay off in the long run, and their support really made all the difference.
At the end of the day, I don’t have it all figured out, but I’ve learned that being humble and open to growth is key. I’ve been lucky to meet amazing people along the way, and that’s something I never take for granted. My hope is that by sharing my experiences, I can encourage others to keep going, even when things feel uncertain.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not know me, I’m Lorenzo Wong, a 21-year-old digital marketer with a passion for crafting compelling narratives and building meaningful relationships through my work. My journey began from a place of curiosity about how media can uplift underrepresented voices and build community. Growing up, I was always captivated by stories—how they can inspire, challenge, and connect us. I never set out to follow a strict career path; instead, I gravitated toward opportunities that felt right, allowing my passion for storytelling and community-building to guide me. I quickly realized that success in this field is not just about promoting products but about creating authentic connections that resonate with audiences.
I entered the marketing landscape by taking on brand ambassador roles that let me represent products I truly believe in. This approach gave me the freedom to showcase brands that align with my values, whether it was promoting skincare that prioritizes clean ingredients or fashion brands committed to accessibility. Over time, my experiences led me to work with exciting brands like Bubble Skincare, Beekman 1802, and Fabletics, where my focus has been on crafting impactful social media campaigns that resonate with audiences on a personal level. Each project I take on is an opportunity to create engaging content and develop community-driven strategies, reinforcing my belief that marketing is about people and relationships rather than just transactions.
What sets my brand apart is my unwavering commitment to authenticity and transparency. I believe that effective marketing transcends mere promotions; it’s about cultivating trust and building meaningful relationships with consumers. When I create content, I aim to foster a sense of belonging and connection among my audience. I take the time to understand their needs, values, and aspirations, which allows me to develop tailored narratives that resonate deeply. This approach prioritizes storytelling that is both engaging and relatable, ensuring that the brands I work with are not just seen but also understood.
One of the most rewarding moments in my journey so far was being a panelist at the Women’s Wear Daily Beauty CEO Summit in 2024. Standing alongside industry leaders and sharing insights about authenticity was surreal. During that discussion, we explored how crucial it is for brands to be genuine in their communications, especially when connecting with my generation. It was a pivotal moment that solidified my commitment to using social media as a force for good, creating spaces where everyone feels represented and valued. Knowing that I could contribute to this conversation and inspire others to embrace their authentic selves was incredibly fulfilling.
At the core of my work is the desire to make a positive impact in both the industry and the communities I engage with. I’m dedicated to continuous learning and improvement, always seeking out new trends and strategies to refine my craft. This curiosity keeps me grounded and adaptable in an industry that’s constantly evolving. I care deeply about the brands I represent and the audiences I connect with, striving to innovate and foster those relationships in meaningful ways.
Ultimately, my work goes beyond marketing; it’s about building narratives that resonate, inspire, and create a sense of belonging. I want my audience to know that I’m just like them—navigating the challenges of a fast-paced digital world while striving to stay true to myself. I invite you to join me on this journey as I explore the intersection of creativity and authenticity in the ever-evolving world of social media and marketing. Together, we can cultivate a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and appreciated.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most significant lessons I had to unlearn on my creative journey was the belief that success had to be a solo endeavor. When I first stepped into the world of marketing and social media, I was fueled by passion and ambition, eager to carve out my own niche. I dove headfirst into my projects, convinced that to make a name for myself, I needed to do everything alone. Seeking help felt like a sign of weakness, and I thought that relying on others would compromise my independence and authenticity.
In those early days, I was so determined to showcase my work that I often found myself overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed. I juggled multiple projects, burning the midnight oil to perfect my content, believing that sheer hard work would inevitably lead to recognition. However, this relentless pursuit of individual success made me lose sight of my original goal: to build a community and foster genuine connections. My focus on personal achievement blinded me to the realization that collaboration could not only enhance my work but also amplify my impact on others.
The turning point for me came when I joined UCLA REACH in college, a community at UCLA dedicated to supporting social media content creators. Being surrounded by individuals who shared my passion for marketing was a transformative experience. It was eye-opening to see that the most successful creators weren’t just those who worked in isolation; they thrived on collaboration and mutual support. Engaging with this community helped me see the value of sharing ideas and working together toward common goals.
Through workshops and brainstorming sessions, I began to understand that our collective creativity could produce something far more powerful than any solo effort. This environment encouraged me to build relationships and foster a supportive space where everyone could thrive, not just me. I learned to appreciate that my mission wasn’t just about personal accolades but about creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone felt valued and represented.
As I shifted my perspective, I became more open to collaboration. I reached out to fellow creators, brands, and mentors, eager to learn from their experiences and insights. This not only enriched my work but allowed me to contribute to a broader narrative that resonates with diverse audiences.
Today, my approach to marketing and social media is rooted in the belief that we are stronger together. I actively seek out opportunities for collaboration and growth, recognizing that the power of community can amplify our voices and drive meaningful change. By embracing this collaborative spirit, I’ve found that I can create the connections I initially sought to build in isolation. Ultimately, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about personal achievements; it’s about uplifting one another and achieving far more together than we ever could alone.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Throughout my creative journey, I’ve come to realize the immense value of networking and building a supportive community. Early on, I underestimated how powerful meaningful connections could be. I believed that talent and hard work were all I needed to succeed. However, I quickly learned that while those qualities are vital, networking (and the doors it may open) is something that requires active engagement—it’s not just handed to you.
Building relationships takes intention and effort. It means stepping out of my comfort zone, attending events, striking up conversations, and reaching out to others who share my passions. I wish I had recognized sooner that networking is about more than just exchanging business cards or accumulating followers; it’s about forming authentic connections with people who inspire and challenge you. These relationships can open doors, provide support, and lead to opportunities that I might never have encountered alone.
I want others to understand that success isn’t a solo endeavor. When you surround yourself with a community of like-minded individuals, you create an environment that fosters growth and collaboration. Each connection offers new perspectives and insights, and when we actively pursue these relationships, we build a network that uplifts us and empowers others. Investing in meaningful connections not only enhances our own journeys but also contributes to the success of those around us. This reciprocal relationship strengthens our community and nurtures a culture of support, creativity, and collaboration.
As I continue my path in marketing and social media, I’m committed to prioritizing networking. I actively seek opportunities to connect with others, whether through workshops, industry events, or online platforms. I encourage everyone to embrace this mindset: put in the effort to develop relationships, and watch as success unfolds in ways you never imagined.
