We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Galina Slavova a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Galina, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the documentary film I’m currently producing about breast cancer. This project is especially significant to me because I have been personally affected by the disease. I’ve witnessed the impact it can have on loved ones, and it’s profoundly shaped my perspective on life and resilience.
Through this documentary, I aim to shed light on the experiences of those affected by breast cancer—sharing their stories of strength, hope, and the challenges they face. I believe in the power of storytelling to foster understanding and support for those battling the disease. This project has become a way for me to honor those I’ve lost and empower others, making it the most meaningful work I’ve ever undertaken.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Galina Slavova, and my journey spans multiple industries, including health and wellness as well as the film industry. A key influence in my life has been my practice of judo, which has taught me a lot about discipline. This discipline shapes how I approach every day, whether it’s in my creative work in film or my efforts to support breast cancer patients and survivors.
Through my non-profit foundation, I focus on raising awareness for breast cancer while offering therapy and community building for those affected. In the film industry, I work on projects that inspire and uplift, driven by a passion for storytelling and making a meaningful impact.
What sets me apart is the combination of these experiences—whether it’s creating impactful films or helping individuals on their wellness journey, everything I do is rooted in care and a desire to foster community. I’m incredibly proud of the difference we’ve made, and I want people to know that my work is about more than just products or films—it’s about creating lasting change and offering support to those who need it.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The driving force behind my creative journey is making a positive and lasting impact, whether through my work in the film industry or my involvement in supporting breast cancer patients and survivors. My mission is to use storytelling and creative expression to inspire change, raise awareness, and connect with people on a deeper level. In the film industry, I aim to create projects that not only entertain but also uplift, challenge perspectives, and inspire audiences to take action.
At the same time, my personal journey with breast cancer advocacy is deeply intertwined with this mission. Through my foundation, I strive to empower those affected by breast cancer, offering them a supportive community and resources to help them through their journey. I want my work, in both film and advocacy, to leave a meaningful legacy that inspires healing, growth, and empowerment.
Ultimately, my goal is to make a difference—to touch lives, encourage resilience, and inspire others to pursue their passions, even in the face of challenges.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A pivotal moment in my life that illustrates resilience is when I was preparing for a fitness competition. I was in peak condition, training as a professional athlete, focused on achieving my goals. But a week later, everything changed—I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Going from being in top physical form to facing a cancer diagnosis was a shock. It felt like my world had shifted overnight.
That transition, from athlete to patient, tested me in ways I had never imagined. I had to channel all the discipline and mental strength I had learned from sports and judo to fight through the treatments, surgeries, and the emotional toll. It was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced, but it deepened my understanding of resilience.
This experience fueled my desire to help others on their journey. The strength I found in myself during that time is what I now hope to pass on to others—to remind them that even in the toughest moments, resilience can carry you through.
