We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deshaun Frazier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Deshaun thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I been recording since 2019 I started off with audacity and once I got out of the military I went to the LA FILM SCHOOL. That school was in Hollywood and the school taught industry standards and basics on recording, making beats, and engineering which was very helpful in the long run. The more I recording I fell in love with recording and it became like a rhythm more or me just recording. I feel when I recording now it’s more fluent and more .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Deshaun Frazier and I go by the name RuinDaRay. I’ve been making music for about 6 years, since 2019 is when I started my music journey. I’ve been writing music since I was 12, I’ve been writing stories since I was 7 or 8. I was always fascinated with with writing, the more I got older I transitioned writing songs more and then I had people tell me that my songs and lyrics were good and top notch I should do something with it. I started taking music serious after i had that snap to reality like “I should make music”. And one thing I a most proud of is that I never gave up and never I’ll give up. Having this drive for so long seeing little success every now and then it’s hard for some people. Being in this industry is no joke your work goes unnoticed but it’s noticed at the same time, so with me keeping this drive I feel I’m ahead of the pack mentally and I’m proud of that.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My family… The world around me… I wanna change my family’s lives with making music. Seeing how a lot of my family struggling all the time being on FOOD stamps or being on any type of governmental assistance trying to feed me and my siblings. Watching only one person work for everything just made me wanna grind harder. To see my family and myself happy.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I used to be in the military I was tired of living that lifestyle I felt like I finally found something I really enjoy doing so I choose to finish my contract and get out of the military. Got out the military and I started hitting music hard and made this my full time job. It was really a shift in environment coming from rules everyday to the normal civilian life, but this time chasing my dream.
