We recently connected with Tiffany Horton and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission in life is to share my gifts with the world. The biggest gift that I’ve been blessed with is the ability to cook and bake. My mother got me started on my journey with how to cook and bake. Over the years I’ve watched her and my aunts cook numerous family favorites. Watching them gave me some inspiration to continue mastering my gift. Over the past few years I’ve heard from several people on multiple occasions that I need to start my own business so one day I decided to stop sitting on my gift and began the process of starting my own business. I believe I was blessed with this gift for a reason and by not sharing it with the world I was wasting it. The main mission behind my business is to make uniquely crafted treats that my customers will enjoy.

Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the CEO & creator of House Of Donuts, LLC. I am a home-based donut shop that offers both yeast-based and cake donuts as well as other treats such as sausage kolaches, danishes, and cinnamon rolls. I have just recently started working on crafting protein-based treats such as donuts, muffins, and cookies. With all of the food allergies and dietary restrictions that people face out there, it can be difficult to run a food business, but I try my best to offer something that everyone can enjoy. I like to challenge myself to create treats that cannot be found everywhere.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Throughout this journey of starting a business I have discovered how resilient I am. There have been times when I’ve come up with ideas on a new treat to create. I would develop a recipe and try it out only for it to not come out how I expected. I will admit there have been times where I would get frustrated but I never gave up. I would go back to the drawing board to figure out what went wrong and see what different I could do the next time. After some trial and error I was successfully able to create something I could be proud of.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There have been several times I’ve had to pivot when it comes to my business but one time in particular that sticks out would be the naming of my business. House Of Donuts, LLC was not the first choice for my business. I have another name in mind and even had an idea for how I wanted the logo to look for the name. I began searching the LLC database here in my state to see what had been taken and to my surprise my first choice had been taken. I was sad for a moment but then I began to think of another name for my business. After a few minutes the name House Of Donuts, LLC came to me.
